Default Spring and Summer Scents, 2012. The search is on.

I would guess that I like darker and heavier scents...the kind that you don't have to use half a dozen sprays of to smell. I like fragrances that last and last too. But most designer scents don't have the power I am looking for. Summer scents tend to be lighter and not as satisfying for me, mostly because it seems (to my nose anyway) that they only last a few hours. Many are based in citrus, which is fine but I am growing tired of a lot of scents with citrus. Blood Orange would be good though.

Looking for something sort of exotic, something with tropical fruits and/or flowers with a base that is decidedly masculine. Probably not an aqua scent...but maybe if it is interesting enough. Aventus might work but I have never smelled it, the pineapple sounds amazing. Tropical fruits of various types would be good as would melon. Something that would take me on an olfactory journey to a tropical island. Something that smells sweet but with a sharper edge at the base or middle.

Any ideas or suggestions my friends?

Had not even thought about Montale! I have really only experienced their take on Aoud fragrances. I will look them up. Thanks!

Caron's Yuzu Man is rather dark - bitter citrus. Very non-cloying and natural-smelling. Impressive longevity for a citrus.

It has no fruits - unless you count Sicilian lemon, etc, as fruits - but Maria Candida Gentile's 'Exultat' is a curious summery fragrance. It opens with a blast of fleeting citruses, then more bitter ones play out, with a little frankincense, against a ground of water flowers (lily, lotus I think, etc).

For something different Lubins L`Eau Neuve is worth checking out. It has a really good juicy fruit blast at the start and drys down to chaomile and woods mixed together with something floral.

Cravache by Robert Piguet or Uomo by Lorenzo Villoresi.

Both start out citric and herbaceous but the former dries down to this mossy warmth whilst the latter to a restrained vetiver.

L'Air de Rien by Miller Harris - One is treated initially to a wave of freshness, supplied by the green, somewhat bitter woodiness of oakmoss, akin to a dank forest shadowed by its lush canopy. Resplendent hay with its sweet, yet salty, dried grassiness interplays with the mustiness of the oakmoss and presents a stable-like aura. A nascent skin-like element combines with the fascinating melange and creates the illusion of the nuzzle of a horse with its soft, warm breath. This muskiness intensifies to reflect the alluring lather of a sweaty stallion, at once, wonderfully immersed in the illusion of the magnificent equine. Transitioning to the heart, the animalistic musk marries with the sharply indolic fruitiness of neroli. Sweetish vanilla fashions a faint, carmel undertone to the transformational blend. Flashes of body odor flitter about. The illusion of an unwashed, torpid lover materializes, and segues to the awaiting base. A rich, earthy patchouli infuses the musk mix with pungent mustiness as well as a slight nuttiness, while amber contributes its sweetish incense-laden and vanillic character. The animalistic musk takes on a more dark nuance with the sweetness of pubic sweat. An orgasmic drydown ensues. This well-executed, high-quality composition is a skin scent with good longevity.

A much overlooked fragrance: Maitre Parfumeur Et Gantier Bahiana (Notes Lemon, Tangerine, Orange, Green of Leaves, Pineapple, Rosewood, Elemi, Lignum Vitae, Musk, Coconut. Well blended, everhything but dull).

Personally I'm not a big fan of Eau Radieuse by Humiecki and Graef, but I guess this is another one that could fit your bill. At least it is worth checking out (citruses galore and green, unripe banana).

If you don't mind certain types of aquatic notes you should also give a chance to Tirrenico which is a white woody/musk with a remarkable fennel presence and ozonic notes. Possibly on of the very few "aquatics" worth checking out. Outstanding lasting power (12+hrs).

A few more suggestions: Sel Marin (vetiver and sparkling bergamot on a cedarwood base), Insensè (aldehydic green floral fougere), Estroverso (astringent lime/cola with artemisia), Comme Des Garcons 3 (unripe citruses and artemisia with a twist), Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune (simple yet sophisticated grapefruit).

Not my cup of tea, but Beyond paradise is an abstract tropical floral, slightly sweet, and very persistent, in typical Estee Lauder's fashion. The one for men is more aquatic.

You might like Blood Concept B. It features very dark and very sweet fruity notes, with dark cherry and pomegranate being most prominent to my nose. The base is woody, with a touch of some kind of metallic note.

+1 CB I hate Perfum At The Beach 1966

Even though you said no citrus, maybe the new Etat Libre D'Orange Fils De Dieu - citrus fruits on rice and metallic notes

I'm in the same boat, looking for a summer scent, but I hate summer scents :')

I'll also add Mountain High by Smell Bent as a great summer scent. Lavender and juicy cannabis with vanilla and patchouli.
