Default Signature scent for twenty-something guy

    Hey,

Currently, I am looking for a new scent, particularly one scent that I would like to use as my signature scent. Thus, I should be able to wear it during the whole year, day, night, casual, office, date, etc.

Let me point out the criteria:
    - rather classy, "sophisticated"
    - masculine
    - not sweet; I am also trying to avoid any "fresh" scent that has a rather heavy, sweet or powdery dry down (that's my problem with Guerlain l'instant --> I love the opening, dislike the ending)
    - nothing that comes with a lot of citrus
    - not too flowery

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

    Green irish Tweed

Guerlain Homme Intense (unless the lime from the mojito opening is too much citrus for you. Hard to tell as it seems as if most scents open with a volley of citrus top notes).
    Aventus? Never heard of it.

Chanel …goÔste has class in abundance! It radiates an elegant masculinity. It has a bit of sweetness though, but it is seamlessly integrated. It has only a light citrus in the top notes, and a little dash of rose. I call it perfect and a masterpiece. Be sure to sample it!

Edit: Concerning the question of age, and if it fits yours; I just turned 26, and …goÔste has been my signature scent for half a decade now.

Old-school squeaky clean barbershop soap meets filthy incense. Very manly, versatile enough to work anywhere (easy on the trigger in summer), fantastic sillage and longevity, and you're unlikely to run into another guy wearing it.

Firstly, one scent for all seasons, all times of day and all kinds of events? I didn't even have that BEFORE I joined Basenotes! It's just not going to happen. I'm now of the opinion that people have a few holy grail scents, but unless you work at a bowling alley, hang our with your friends at the bowling alley and only eat out at the food court at the bowling alley, there is no such thing as a signature scent that won't be inappropriate some of the time. A scent for a day out at the beach isn't going to cut it at a wedding. A guy in my office has decided Le Male is his signature, and he stinks the whole open plan area out, it's not appropriate.

Secondly, you don't want fresh, sweet, powdery, citrusy or floral? That kinda restricts what you can go for! I think you are probably left with getting a Vetiver like Guerlain Vetiver, TF Grey Vetiver, or if you have the cash, Chanel Sycomore.

I was thinking the same thing. Probably the only suggestion to make would be vetiver or maybe some type patchouli

    @ all

Thank you for your comments and suggestions. I believe I should explain myself a little bit after reading the comments.

    - Although I am looking for a "signature scent", I will not stop using other fragrances. I just wish to have a "no brainer" and I would like to have a scent which makes people think of me once they smell it. I also believe that close relatives and friends really enjoy smelling the same scent always when they meet a particular person that they like. However, I will still wear Chanel Egoiste or Guerlain l'Instant Eau Extreme for christmas or Issey Miyake or Acqua di Gio for a day at the beach.
    - I consider myself a parfum-lover ("Basenoter"?) but this does not mean I have to follow the same approach as many/the majority and thus use a lot of different fragrances. For me, it just means to be interested in scents and doing decent research in order to find a suitable scent.

    @ andym72:
There is a misunderstanding. I like "fresh" scent. But I don't like the kind of fresh scents that have a powdery or very sweet dry down.

Final remark: What's bad about putting quite some restrictions? It reduces the number of options and makes it easier to choose.

+1 for Egosite and Green Irish Tweed.

Another one which could fit the bill, which doesn't get enough praise around here, Narcisco Rodriguez for him EDP intense (not the EDT) or
Narcisco Rodriguez Musc for him EDP.

Also Maison Francis Kurkdjian Lumiere Noire PH.

Did you read the parts where he doesnt want anything powdery, feminine, citrusy and the need for it to be sophisticated? I agree that some of your selections are good fragrances. But I disagree that they are good based on his needs. Just my opinion.

I hate to say it but I agree. Now and before the hypocrite police stomp on my balls for recommending something with not only citrus as well as a floral I think we can all agree that aventus comes off as anything but a floral. And the citrus is blended well with the other ingredients. Its surely not neroli portofino but honestly aventus to me has a following for a reason. Nothing goes this strong this long on hype alone. It is a scent that is equally at home in the fall as it is in the spring and summer. And if you shop smart you can buy sample lots of the stuff and get as little or as much as you want for less than flacon pricing. The best thing is you wont find many people wearing it despite its popularity on forums.
