Default Finally got me a vial of Fougere Royale.............NICE!

    NOt just nice but GREAT!

I thought an "uppity" fragrance like this might smell great, from what others here post, but I was pleasantly surprised by it's projection and longevity

This baby is strong. No wonder this is a classic and to me not over-hyped.

    Excellent, that's good to know!

I like the re-release as well, and was lucky enough
to get good deal on a partial bottle from a fellow basenoter recently.

I think it's an excellent fragrance, but not worth the
    $170 per 3.4 ounces.

It is what Platinum Egoiste from Chanel should have been IMO.
A fresh, clean fougere that lasts a good 8 hours.

I really wanted to like Fougere Royale (2010) and, up to I certain point, I did. My point is that the original version was appearantly loaded with now extremely restricted ingredients. I can't stop thinking about that the re-issued smells nothing like the "real-thing". I'm probably wrong (and I would be genuinely curious to hear some thoughts from people who had the chance to smell the vintage)...

That said, I think the project of re-releasing such a fragrance in 2010 sounds incredibly greedy.

Unfortunately, I have not smelled the original, but Tania Sanchez claims that the new is nothing like it. Indeed she says that one of the reason they cut off Fougere Royale from their new book was not to confuse people with the new release.

I suppose the original must have been more in the style of English Fern, but vastly better.

I wish I saw this thread earlier instead of posting in another. This smells exactly like a softer and tamer version of Aramis but with a complex and floral heart but Aramis all the same. It must share some of the same notes. The floral aspect start to become stronger in the drydown and it is very nice and complex. But I cannot shake the Aramis vibe.lol

Absolutely Cacio. Fougere Royale 2010 is , overall, an average quality fougere. Today, you can buy botloads of better stuff for 1/10 of its price. The original relevance of the former FR has nothing to do with today's version of it...
