Default Estee Lauder Youth Dew..........for men?

Does anybody consider Youth Dew suitable for a man to wear? I tested it yesterday and it made me think of Chanel Pour Monsieur, but with much more presence, potency and sillage. I enjoyed the experience and would consider wearing it.

You better believe it. YD is totally cool with the fellas. The leathery, spicy aspects emerge when I wear it. Vintage is preferred.

Kevin G is a BIG FAN! I have a bottle of the bath oil that I use as a fragrance. Syrupy oriental with a huge dose of aldehydes up top. Actually, I can't imagine this on a woman.

IMHO, there are close similarities between Youth Dew with JHL and YSL's Opium (for women).

I sampled Ispahan yesterday, and that one is very similar to JHL but without the sandalwood note. I also sampled vintage YD a while back but found the aldehydes to be a bit much. Other ideas are Witness, vintage Tabu, KL Homme, depending upon which direction you want to go.

Trying to distinguish vintage from modern is difficult if by the bottle alone Aromi, but the packaging helps a great deal. Compare images here where the "EL" logo is more prominent on the box:

I realized Youth Dew was rather butch when I sprayed it on a card and it made the card brown.

Some also consider Estee Lauder Knowing to be fitting for men to wear. Very much a chypre-y vibe.

I think it's more masculine than feminine. I just wore it 2 weeks ago and find it similar to Sables by Annick Goutal.

YD is definitely suitable for a man.

I also recommend that you try JHL and Aramis 900 (if you haven't already.)

I love it and echo what Dimitri said above, the vintage juice is really outstanding. I think the bath oil is not quite as LARGE as the EdT, although even this formulation you only need a tiny amount because this stuff is STRONG.

I have found also that the vintage bottle seem to have different labels on the bottle (even though the shape of the bottle is the same). Vintage looks like this and new juice looks like this. My own personal vintage bottle I found in a thrift shop in Puerto Rico a couple of years ago, for 99 cents, looks like this, which I assume is very old, probably from the 1960's or 70's ??

Honestly, I cannot smell the similarities to this and Chanel Pour Monsieur. YD is a straight up oriental (very spicy & amber prominent), whereas PM is very much a chypre.

Just thought I'd mention that before YD, you might want to try some old Tabu. Today, I'm giving my 1960s EdC Tabu its first full wearing, and I consider this to be more wearable than the vintage YD I tried.

I just got lucky and a relative gave me some really old YD. I sampled it yesterday and wrote up this review:

Too fruity to be unisex, IMO. I prefer vintage/1960s Tabu EdC. Now that is one incredible vintage fragrance. This one is dated and not special to me, but of course it blows away almost everything being produced now. I was hoping the base would have a great balsamic quality, but that never came to pass. JHL/Ispahan type fragrances have a dry, spicy/soapy quality, which is not at all like Youth Dew. I'm not a huge fan of either one, but I prefer them to Youth Dew, which is not "oriental" enough for me. The one I sampled was vintage, from the 50s or 60s. Longevity and projection/"sillage" are excellent. So, if you like the idea of a fruity (not in the modern sense) oriental, you might want to try this one. Overall, it's well made and has no flaws (other than coming across a little "synthetic" at times), but likely will impress others as "old," unless they too are perfumistas.

Of all the fragrances I wear "Youth Dew" gets the most compliments. I use the bath oil, just a drop on each wrist and/or on my sternum and suddenly it's like I'm wrapped in a fur coat and everyone wants to snuggle.

I love YD as well!.....not sure I would ever wear it as I associate it too much with certain women in my life who wore it as their signature fragrance....If you like YD, you might try Royal Secret for Men....I bought a bottle a few weeks ago and love it...You can buy it fairly inexpensive...got mine @ the local swap meet for $10.00!!!!

This is my SOTD, and it's a classic. For $25.00 for the bath oil in the 1 ounce size, you can use this as an extrait. Sensual and classy, and can be worn by men and women.

Here's another shout out for "Royal Secret". It's a friendly oriental (with just a touch more leather than YD, which can be nice.) at a great price.

I wished I had my grandmother's vintage bottle of Youth Dew (and the Chanel no.5 in the black bakelite case.)

There is a woman at work who wears YD. It does smell a bit masculine and musty on her, but she's a musty, masculine sorta woman, who is not sweet or pretty at all!

Creed's Ambre cannelle smells similar to Youth Dew minus some flowers. It totally reminded me of my na-na who wore Youth Dew, but was different enough to not feel weird or too emotional.

If you have the right skintone you might be able to pull off the heady florals in Youth Dew.

I don't wear it, but I can see a guy pulling off Youth Dew well. Youth Dew smells like a more powdery and floral Mazzolari Lui to me.

I have been wearing youth dew for about 3 years now
It's my favorite scent, and im a 28 year old straight male!
(Not that sexual orientation matters here) but I believe that regardless of gender perfumes and colognes
Can be used by whomever, I actually get many compliments
When I use the youth dew bath oil!! I just drop a few drops
On my palms after the shower when my skin is still damp and
Rub it all over myself and it lasts all day, it had a woody
Amber sweet musky scent ...girls actually love it when I'm wearing it
And also guys at the gym have asked me what I'm using!
I sometimes even mix the bath oil with the DOVE unscented shower gel and it lasts a long time.

I'm a bit late on this posting but I hope this helps!
