Cacharel pour Homme was my signature back in the nineties. I bought a bottle some days ago after not having worn it for almost 20 years and I can't detect any differences. It's still as good as it was back then, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm glad it still hits the spot for you rex, but I'm pretty sure this has been significantly toned down. It used to very acerbic, with a big hit of mace. The recent version is clearly the same fragrance but is missing the intensity of the original.

Bingo. The original was a winter scent only imho. I fondly remember that wearing cacharel pour l'homme and drinking rusty nails (single malt scotch & drambuie) was my preferred winter sport!

Having said that the current stuff still works even if it is toned down...

Anybody know if is it true that cacharel pour l'homme is out of production?

I agree with this. I purchased a bottle from the US last year- you can't find it here in the UK- and it seemed very wishy-washy. I wore it for years in the eighties and nineties and I remember it being much more potent.

I'm not sure, to be honest.

I have the one that first came out in my collection, but recently smelled the one that is found today and notice no difference.

    Still for sale here.
Blindbought a bottle several months ago. Used a bottle or 2 back in the 80's. Either my sense smell has changed, or my skin, but I remembered this way different then it smells now. Seems like the fresh sparkle is gone. Also the scent is almost gone after an hour or so, while it used to last all day on me.

I keep wondering if this is the same reason why most people here claim the vintage versions of fragrances are so much better then the versions sold now. The juice is the same, but their chemistry / sense of smell has changed. Or their memory has hyped the vintage version, which might have been the case for me here.

Same thing happened with Zino Davidoff for me. The juice is the same, but I just can't seem to enjoy the stuff anymore.

It's the old question; did it seem stronger back then because that's when we first started wearing fragrances and every scent seemed strong...or is it actually weaker now?

It hasn't been available in the UK for many years now. It's a mystery to me how you can still buy it in other parts of Europe and the US... unless it's old stock, of course?

Am I correct in assuming that the difference between vintage CPLH and 'new' CPLH is the bottle?

I bought a 100 ml EDT bottle and it's the exact same stuff.

    Same nice frag.

But it seems to have poor longevity on me now - 4-6 hours only

But the stuff smells EXACTLY like it did in 1986

Does the bottle differ from the one you owned in '86 CHSeifert?

Vintage bottle had metal portion on bottom half, or third of the bottle. Reformulated version just the opposite. Metal portion on top of bottle. I don't seem to find that much difference between the two, if my memory serves me correctly, as I now only own the current formulation.

In Germany you can find the reformulated Version in every good Perfume Shop, but i have to admit that the new Bottle with the upper metall portion has a really cheap looking Cap.
