Default l'instant de guerlain extreme... idk anymore

I've posted two threads before, both about LIDGE...

1st post.. I was trying to find it...

2nd post... I was saying where to buy it..

I have sprayed a total of 4 sprays from the bottle.

The first day I loved it; it was a nice warm day.
Today it was a cold day, and I found it to be a bit too sweet.

Don't get me wrong its an amazing fragrance and I might have to try it again on a warm day but right now I kinda feel like selling it. I cant post on basenotes marketplace, so I will hold onto it and give it another chance I guess.

I kinda feel that the sweetness factor is a bit overwhelming, and that I might be too young for it as I am 20. If it seems like I will not like it after another 2 sprays, I think I will sell it on Amazon... or someone here. Lets see.

It's a pretty nice fragrance. The cocoa is very sweet like you said. It remind me of Cocoa Krispies.

It's awful stuff that only gets worse each wearing. I will take it off your hands for $20.

It's interesting how some people really like this stuff and how others are take it or leave it.

This stuff is great for me, but I already have 2 bottles. So I don't need another. But I know a lot of people blind bought it from hype and ended up not liking it. It fits my needs completely though. Love the stuff.

Actually laughed out loud at this!

Ironically enough I just got my bottle today from a trade. Glorious comes to mind. What a frag! Give it some time. My first sample I too was lukewarm to it, but, now I find it incredible.

I'm sure you will not have any trouble finding a buyer here. I have a couple bottles already otherwise I would take it off your hands. If you aren't strapped for cash though I say hold on to it for a couple more weeks and revisit it here and there.

Unless you really need the money, why not just hang onto it for a bit? Put it away and try it again every so often. One thing I found out after a while being into perfume is that your taste will develop and change. There are perfumes I disliked intensely when I first tried them, and then found myself searching for a year later. And there's at least one bottle that I bought, loved, changed my mind about, sold, and then bought again. Don't rush to a decision if you can avoid it.

LIDGE is an incredible fragrance..but...it takes some learning in my experience. don't sell it! My advice would be to go light on the trigger and revisit this in a week or two. This one changes as you wear it and over spraying does not make it better. Hang on to it and you will learn to love it. I can almost promise that.

I've had this for a couple months and don't quite get it. It doesn't seem to change a lot on me. I smelled regular Instant Homme at Bergdorf a couple weeks ago and thought that was much more interesting.

I love this juice and this is what I get from it.

This is one of the few very best fragrances that I have ever smelled and it is simply awesome!

It opens with a warm freshness of citrus and coco which the coco becomes more pronounced. For the first hour or so you get florals and woods pushing through the coco which is the dominant note and is gorgeous.

Then as the florals recede you notice the woods more behind the coco then drydown is just the heavenly coco and it has to be experienced. After many hours the basenotes come into play which is a vanille musk and that stays as a skin scent for a long time.

I get a amazing twelve hours longevity and any clothing your wearing is going to retain this scent even when I woke up the next day I could still smell its basenotes.

To sum up its complex and smells sensual and classy and lasts for ages. I will never be without this fragrance in my wardrobe as its just stunning.

I still like this scent, but I do not wear it much. I have to be in the mood for it before I will put it on.
Five that I am enjoying right now

    2) Spiritueuse Double Vanille by Guerlain

Thanks--that's exactly what I was looking for. I'm not a huge fan of cocoa notes, which is probably why I've had some difficulty with it. But I'm going to give it a good wearing tomorrow and try to focus on the other aspects you describe. I don't think the cocoa is a dealbreaker if everything else is interesting to me.

I say keep it awhile. I loved it from the get go, but I loved it even more after a few wears over a couple of months time. No harm giving it 4 or 5 wears, and if you still don't like it, then you will be absolutely certain of it, and sell it at that point. Me, personally, I think it is one of the top all time frags around, but it is a bit sweet (although there are much, MUCH sweeter frags out there).

The first few wears all I could focus on was the cocoa. As time progressed and I wore it a few more days, I began to smell the entire composition, not just notes here and there. For me, the citrus has a brief appearance but a delicious one, then this gets right down to a dirty but classy, woody, bitter cocoa masculine masterpiece.

It's one of those frags where I noticed if I just sit back and relax or just go about my business, I enjoy the whole experience it has to offer and not just the note make-up and picking out what I can or can't find.

Yes, I think getting past the cocoa and into the other notes is the trick. BTW, we have a mini-meetup tonight if you're interested in smelling some weird stuff.

I actually agreed with your initial assessment - the L'Instant is more interesting. I also find it less suffocating. The extreme was all Patchouli Attack on me.

Having said that, I hope your re-test pays off and you find a way in.

I blindly bought 2 bottles of L'Instant Extreme off of Amazon probably 2 months ago...

Initial spray: It smelled kind of dated. The same way Envy smelled dated to me in the opening. The opening disappears after 10 min (thank god) and transforms to a dry coco with some light spices. Then from there the spices fade a bit and the coco is more pronounced from there on.

I was unsure of how I felt too after 2 wearings but I absolutely love it now. An executive secretary at the casino I work at, actually stopped me and asked what kind of cologne I was wearing and where she could get some for her husband, haha.

She asked about Dior Homme Intense too, so I'm guessing its gotta be the drydowns of both fragrances that draws the most attention.

Anyway, give it time. Put it away for a few months then come back to it. You won't have any trouble getting rid of it if you do decide it's not for you though.

You wanna' do some swappage for that LIDGE on an otherwise brand-new (sprayed 5-6 times) 2.5 oz. bottle of TDH parfum? I'm really not feeling it, but I'll happily trade you across the board for a 2.5 LIDGE if you haven't used that much of it. If anyone wants to buy it from me instead, I'll sell it you ya' for $80 bones!!!

Wearing this for the second time ever (just received it blind two days ago) and I'm not sure about it, either. I really like it but it's almost too much of a good thing. I fear it falls into that class of scents that "smell really good, but don't keep me intellectually involved." I think some dry smoky vetiver would really help round it out.

I might try decanting a bit and adding a smidge of indonesian vetiver.

I'm still not 100% sold on the scent. I love it but still am wishing it to be something slightly other than it is. Maybe that will change in time. In fact, I think it will because I must say that LIDGE is probably my #1 best smelling "quick whiff from the cap" scent. Seriously, the scent that is left under the cap is divine. So deep and smooth and utterly non-synthetic smelling. The only competition it has is Memoir Man and Jubilation 25 (womens), but neither of those have that mouthwatering gourmand tonality that LIDGE does.

It sounds silly, but the under the cap smell is important when it comes time to choose a scent. At least for me it is.

    I'm 24 and I love it.
Watch out because the topnotes are strong.
3 sprays and my mother was complaining, claiming the whole house smells like it.
It's the most amazing fragrance in my wardrobe when it comes to longevity and sillage.
It lasts and lasts and lasts and lasts and keeps on projecting without being totally overpowering, with the exception of the topnotes.
The fragrance is an amazing masculine, sensual, woody, coco patchouli fragrance that is ever so slightly citrusy and floral.
You can't go wrong with this one. A masterpiece. I'll never be without it.

The original L'Instant de Guerlain PH (EdT) was what I fell in love with before learning about the Extreme, which sealed the deal for me. Though I don't reach for either that often, they do have a secure place in my wardrobe. I really need to be in the right mood to wear it but definitely see it as one worth owning. Nothing really smells quite like it.

    I think it's a really good scent.
About this time last year, I was sitting on two
bottles of the stuff, one BNIB and one missing about 10 sprays.
I wound up selling one and swapping the other.
I regret getting rid of both bottles now.

I wish I had kept one.
I still think the EDT version is better and more dynamic,
but would like to revisit the EDP now.

How much better do you guys feel LIDGE is than the original Dior Homme (2005). I'm sure they are quite different, but as I'm currently enamoured with the first, and can see it becoming my signature scent. Do you feel I will enjoy LIDGE much more... less? If my collection is as big as I intended it to be, do I want LIDGE? I'm definitely open to buying one more, so long as I find it worth my $120. I know this is subjective, but do any of you have thoughts?

I've recently bought this and am also struggling with it a bit. My problem (like BC's was) is also with the cocoa which I think is too strong for the first hour or so. After that the frag is nice but I don't find it incredible like others do.

I'm really surprised that there are almost no negative reviews on this - feel a bit like I'm missing something.

I used to have LIDGE as well and sold it because I found it a little too sweet and the cocoa came off really bold. It seems like men mostly love this stuff but it's hit or miss for women. I plan on picking up the EDT soon and revisiting LIDGE in the near future as well to see if my tastes have changed. I currently much prefer Dior Homme Intense to LIDGE.

Ok I'll try it again too!
I've had the bottle for 2 years and try it periodically, hoping to find what others get. I think I get stuck with the juxtaposition of the citrus and cocoa - they seem to grate against each other rather than form a paradoxical dialectic, as some other frags can do. I still have the bottle, so haven't given up yet!

I have owned LIDGE for about 1 week now and I'm still trying to figure this fragrance out. I like it, but I want to love it like everyone seems to. I like the citrus and the cocoa together, that's not a problem for me, it's just that it's a heavy scent, which is something that I'm not all that used to, and, it has quite a sharp dry down that can get cloying to me. I have to got really light on the trigger or it gets me pretty bad. I have discovered that if I layer it with The Art of Shaving Sandalwood it smooths out the sharpness and makes it a little better, in my opinion. I know that a lot of people here on basenotes would probably get upset with me for layering in the first place, and especially layering with LIDGE, but, it works for me and I'm glad. So, if you have a chance to give it a try, see what you think. Just my 2 Cents.

This is more or less where I'm at. I have had it for about half a year, but have only worn it 3 times, as I find the citrus in the opening pretty off-putting. I don't seem to really enjoy this until deep into a wearing, but the drydown is enough to keep my hanging onto my bottle.
