Looks like everyone has a different definition of what a fresh fragrance is supposed to smell like.

From my experience I'd say Bleu de Chanel and Set Sail St. Barts and Love and Luck are good. I was never a huge fan of the Allure line from Chanel, and I'm still debating on Voyage.

Oh dear... I wasn't that impressed with Voyage, I would never wear or own BP, sadly don't know Unbound and although I like Z and Aventus not sure I would put them in a top 5

+1 for Mugler Cologne (if it can make it in the list, 2001 I think?)

I would put Infusion d'Homme and Amber up here well above the orig 3 I mentioned

Neat post though bound to get some strong opinions

Nautica Voyage is ok, Estee Lauder Beyond Paradise Men is not. Don't know the others.

Mugler Cologne is just ok/good, bit overrated on here, imo, Kinda got bored of it a bit when I last wore it. Sel Marin is one of these Basenotes nose teasers that doesn't seem to be all that available in the UK :-/

Aye, therein lies the problem! Case in point, I had a female co-worker smell my arm the other day and her response was "that smells very clean, very fresh." What was it? The musky middle notes of Musc Ravageur! No doubt harking back to days of yore when her father wore musk scented speed stick and splashed some musk aftershave on. The one thing that I can say without a doubt is that the OP was able to put together a list of 5 fragrances.

I very much agree with your first three, I haven't sampled Aventus yet, buy I'd replace Beyond Paradise with Paris Hilton for Men - or Just Me or Heir, for that matter. The various summer Eternity scents, Del Mar and Ice Men would be contenders for a place too.

We've certainly had some classics in the last 10 years.

Unfortunately, one of the freshest scents of all time, Tommy T, doesn't make the cut - missing out by one year.
    Cheers,

Indeed, it's not "safe" to proclaim any five scents the best fresh compositions to emerge in the past decade. There are far too many candidates, and opinions will vary.

My candidates? Sel Marin, Bel Respiro, Bahiana, Heeley's Verveine, and Celadon.
Runners-up: L'Humaniste, Geranium pour Monsieur, Mugler Cologne. (Ask me tomorrow, and I'd probably have a different five. )
