    Default DSquared2 Potion

    Has anyone tried this?

I quite liked this when I briefly tried it.

I get the sense that it is not in wide distribution. Not here in the US yet.

But yes : Anick Menardo's newest work, so people have reason to be curious.

Lol. Confusion from trying too many perfumes.

I absolutely love this. At times it smells like a spicier Musc Ravageur. Considering my skin usually can't project for sh*t, I could actually detect this on my wrist 25 hours after applying!

Also it's thankfully nothing like the awful He Wood and it's flankers.

Very nice scent, but it has abysmal sillage and longevity. For an edt it would be a disappointment, but for an edp, it's a disgrace.

    Alfarom, maybe Tonka Imperialle?

    Riverwide, how many sprays?

I'm a notorios over-sprayer, but even when I use up to 10 sprays of Potion, it makes little difference to its longevity. It's pretty much gone in under 2 hours. I have to stick my nose right up to my skin to barely detect it, and even worse, it doesn't last on clothing either, which is unusual for an edp.

As I say, I do like the scent itself, but it's a complete waste of money in my opinion.

Will have to try it myself to confirm the above.

I quite enjoyed He and Rocky Mountain Wood this summer. Nice little woodies for a warm summer's day (I can see though why people would call them bland) and will try and sample Silver and Wet Wood plus this one in the future. I also enjoy the Ikea style bottles, I'm not ashamed to say.

Edit - "gone in under 2 hours". Well, maybe this one goes off the to try list.

People lurking this thread: please test for yourself and don't dismiss on longevity claims. As I said, I got TWENTY FIVE hours from one spray to the back of my hand/wrist. I was very wary as when I read longevity complaints, I know that I'll suffer just as bad - if not worse - than others in that regard, so I went into this test expecting the worst and was completely surprised.

I have a sample of this and I have found it to be a spicy, deep and strong fragrance. My skin eats up alot of fragrances but I have found the longevity with this great,I can still detect it, although faintly on my skin the next morning. I will definitely buy a full sized bottle of this.

I just got a bottle of this today as a gift from my mum (she'd been overseas) and I have to say I quite like it.
It's got a bit of a churchy vibe about it, which appeals to me, but the projection is minimal if virtually non-existent. It lasts for a couple of hours (maybe 3 hours) on my skin though - for a skin scent it's nice.
PS On the box it says Eau De Toilette - I thought it was supposed to be a parfum?

Nope, definitely says Eau De Toilette on the box and the bottle.

I've taken a picture of both but can't upload it to show you, must be an iPhone thing?

Lol - no, my 'mama' was in Greece, but I'm not sure that makes any difference in this case!

Tellin' me! Now I'm a bit pissed off knowing that the EDP has issues with longevity/projection and I could potentially be stuck with an even lighter version!

Weird, isn't it? I mean, I was expecting my bottle to look like that too, but there you go, it's an Eau De Toilette - just like the one in the link I posted.

Who knows? Could be a counterfeit? Maybe she stopped over in China and didn't tell me lol.

Hard to imagine that it's crude, seeing as how Menardo is the nose, but I guess one never knows.

My sense is that the guys behind DSquared2 are on the legit, and by going to Menardo are doing their best to present a good product. But with the fashion of things being "light and transparent" today, who's to know what to expect from things anymore.

At the same time, paying good money for something that takes a bunch of sprays to make an impression is an experience that's going to get old quick, I suspect. Particularly in this day and age.

But no, I doubt that this stuff is popular enough yet to catch the eyes of counterfeiters. As I understand, it's still not available in the USA yet.

But if they could guarantee a good copy of that babe (even if it's just her lower back) I suspect any straight guy would bite.

Never tried it but if she was working by herself it's hard to imagine Annick Menardo not making something decent. A lot depends on the amount of time and money she was given to make it.

Yeah, you have to wonder what their strategy is, regarding releasing this stuff in the US.

Perhaps their other releases simply did not do well over here ?

Just smelled it and it smells really super sweet which is not my taste. Those who likes sweet frag must give it a try

  52. #52

    Default Re: DSquared2 Potion

It's a warm, spiced woody amber so you would expect a degree of sweetness but it sure isn't Ambre Precieux-sweet. A note on longevity, which gets a bum rap: 4 sprays last all day on me (EdP).

  53. #53

    Default Re: DSquared2 Potion

I tested it from a sample received from a Sephora employee, as they have been promoting this heavily for around a week. A warm incensy fragrance, reminds me a bit of Gucci pour homme I. Can overspray, doesnt look like it can get cloying. I liked it and got a decent longevity on skin (~6 hours). I am not yet very sure on projection, will have to test it more.

I made up my mind and I bought a bottle of this 2 days ago. I initially went to test the other creation of Annick Menardo from 2011 (kokorico) but bought Potion in the end.

The second day of wear, i got great longevity - 14 hours out of which the scent projected good for the first 3 hours and decent for around 3 hours more, after that getting close to the skin. So well above average for sure. 2 sprays on the neck, one on the chest and one spray on one of the wrists for a better study. I was extremely surprised, judging that i had a sample of of 1.5ml from Sephora about a week before buying, and i got like 6-7 hours longevity, as stated earlier.

So the people that have posted in this thread before me and praised its longevity were right. Maybe its only my skin chemistry, but i cannot imagine how this is so bad on some other people. I am glad with the purchase...
