Morning all. Grim here too, very grey, windy and wet. AP Maitresse for me today.
Thread: SotD: Sunday 29th April 2012
Good morning - or not !. Woke up to a whole day of rain yesterday, rained overnight, any guesses what I'm seeing out of the window now ?. I'ts more like the back end of November here but we do need it so I suppose complaints should be at a minimum.
Something to combat the dreary damp -
SotD is SL Iris Silver Mist
Morning all. Grim here too, very grey, windy and wet. AP Maitresse for me today.
Mouchoir de Monsieur for me this morning. It zipped through its progression like nothing and I can smell the faint remainders of last night's En Avion again. I will think of a Scent of the Midday.
Enjoy your Sunday!
Yorkshire is expecting a months worth of rain in 24 hrs at present. April was already the wettest on record with 153mm in Sheffield already by last Wednesday! We weren't in drought either.
I'm still in yesterday's Tubereuse Criminelle dry down. Wow that's some longevity
Got the urge for Jicky later
Hello everyone...have a nice Sunday! Today I'm with Mona Di Orio's Cuir...

I decided to roll on some Elixir de Lumiere Noire Femme (F. Kurkdjian) on my wrist. No Eau sticks with me in the summer heat. However, this is fantastic!
Good morning! Keeping it simple in Yardley's Iris. Have a great day, all!
The nose wants what it wants!
Congrats to G303 for his latest impressive milestone.
Nice one, Gary
Eau D'Ikar by Sisley
Gary well done. You are awesome, and lovely too.
So England is awash! Aw! We have sun here at the moment.
I am floating around (literally), in Tabac Blond Extrait today. I'm totally intoxicated. I'm not one of our classicists by a long chalk, but honestly, this leaves me reeling. I love it!
Hey y'all -
I'm in Elie Saab Le Parfum. Have a wonderful Sunday, everyone!
Science is not only compatible with spirituality, it is a profound source of spirituality. When we recognize our place in an immensity of light-years and in the passage of ages, when we grasp the intricacy, beauty, and subtlety of life, then that soaring feeling, that sense of elation and humility combined, is surely spiritual. ..Carl Sagan
It has been dismal, gray, chilly, and rainy here, too.
Thank you for the lovely music, Jon.
I am wearing YSL Parisienne this morning.
Congratulations to Gary!
Have a good Sunday, all. (Smooch)
good morning. trying out john varvatos from my samples collection.
Morning and afternoon , all !
Gary - congratulations and you are a wonderful and kind Basenoter .
I'm wearing a bit of Black Violet this morning which starts out quite brisk . Sitting outside on Tapatalk right now .
Trying the last of my little tin sample pack from Penhaligons and it's all go with Racquets. Both wrists and behind the ears.
Parfums de Nicolaï New York nd.4874.jpg Trying to wear this, once again, and it still doesn't work for me. So sad. Weather is craptastic here, but in an ordinary not unusual way. Happy Sunday, y'all.
Sampling today! Got a box full of the loveliest samples from ''M''!!!!!!
Hermes Amazone, lovely!
Overcast grey skies here in Dallas, that's lovely too! I don't like the sun, it burnt my arm yesterday
''Do unto others 20% better than you'd expect them to do unto you to correct for subjective error.''
Like many others, I'm going through my samples. I did a clearing out of my samples drawer and am using and pitching them! Today I'm in Limone di Sicilia by I Profumi di Firenze-- wow, talk about an intense, true lemon oil smell! But it fades rather fast.
I think I will make a lemon pudding today and some Italian meringue to top it. Italian meringue is also known as boiled icing; it's made by slowly pouring boiling syrup (238º) over beaten egg whites, and beating until the whites are satiny smooth. This makes an excellent frosting and filling for lemon cakes, too. The whites are cooked by the syrup so there is no risk of salmonella.
Have I told you about the scent of jasmine? Have I spoken about the smell of the sea? The earth is scented. And I perfume myself to enhance what I am. That's why I can not wear a perfume that bothers me. Perfuming is an instinctive wisdom. And like all art, it requires some knowledge of yourself..."

Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier's Jasmin. I'm so happy I bought this from the marketplace here from a very knowledgeable BN friend. This is fantastic and most of all, the jasmine smells so natural to me and not screechy white from synthetics. A summernight and jasmine... perfect!
My daughter took this picture on a recent visit to the Missouri Botanical Gardens. Spring in St Louis is much longer than it was in New Jersey. The iris are equally stunning. I love this picture of hers and thought the color combination of this particular flower so pretty.
SOTD is the equally stunning Xerjoff Irisss a gift sample from Mimi. (Mwah!)
The colors reminds me of irises for some reason.....go figure.
Love that track RHM.
Did opt for Jicky today. Felt the need for calming lavender. Mum in law been telephoning in tears, she's forgotten a few things understandably and bro in law despite being asked not to has called her out on the forgetfulness.
SotE is likely to be Jicky dry down and the smell of the roast dinner I cooked with traces of nutmeg and vanilla from the rice pudding.
I'm sampling Neil Morris Midnight Flower today. I don't think I will be getting a full size of this one. It's just not me. Take care, all.

I’m trying a Madini oil from a packet of musk samples I ordered from them: Alma de Alma. So far this one is my favorite (I liked Musk Pierre, too), but I’m unaccustomed to using perfume oils like these – they are extremely potent. I swiped the little wand once across one wrist – a miniscule amount – and the scent is HUGE, almost overwhelming. I may try diluting them in some unscented almond oil.
Mimi, I love your new avatar. Gorgeous. ♥
You’re all making me crave sweets talking about Italian Meringue.
Larimar, jasmine on a summer night – sounds lovely!
@ Foustie, this can be used to make baked meringue cookies, too, but I haven't done so yet. I think one of these days I'll make up a batch just to experiment with flavoring it to make the baked meringues. My favorite meringues are the coffee flavored ones, so I'll need some strongly brewed coffee to use.
Lilybelle - thank you ! That's so sweet of you .
This afternoon - I'm wearing Coco Mademoiselle EDP . Lovely !
Rose Barbare today, from a sample.
Lilybelle- I think you will love the Madini oils. You get a tremendous value. A little daub lasts & lasts, as you discovered.
Here's a thread on them;
30 Roses your lemon desserts and meringue recipe made my mouth water (I am currently on a low carbohydrate eating plan and meringue is so not allowed!). I, too, desire to eat something lemony when I wear a sweet lemon prominent scent...it usually happens when I wear Shalimar Eau Legere.
Larimar, your description of MPG's Jasmin intrigues me, I've never smelled it
It was rainy here in Miami as well - ALL day yesterday and ALL day today. Good excuse to stay in, play Satie on my iPad and get a late afternoon massage that was exquisite (I wore some real Mysore sandalwood during the massage - very meditative)
Came home, had a bath and it felt comforting to splash on some lavender/vanilla...Pour un Homme de Caron by Caron

Thank You to everyone here at Basenotes for Your kind words and Congratulations!!!
Today I'm wearing Kyoto by Comme Des Garcons!!! This is one of my must-have fragrances!!!! Thank You again to my Basenotes Family!!!
Mike, Larimar's description of MPG's Jasmin is spot on. It's a very natural smelling jasmine with little or no "sidebars". IMO
I really like the heavy glass bottle but the cap is rather on the chintzy side. Looks like it doesn't belong.
Tonight I want something cozy. L'Huere Bleue parfum makes me think of the blue skies. My daughter took this photo. I rather like it.
Today I wore no. 19 parfum with two light sprays of no. 22 on my inner forearms. It may sound wrong, but I can't help myself.
The sweet and bitter counterplay seems to be what I am craving right now.
"Like a lobster with a pearl in its claw, the beet held the jasmine firmly without crushing or obscuring it. Beet lifted jasmine, the way a bullnecked partner lifts a ballerina, and the pair came on stage on citron's fluty cue. As if jasmine were a collection of beautiful paintings, beet hung it in the galleries of the nose, insured it against fire or theft, threw a party to celebrate it. Citron mailed the invitations." Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins p. 189
What I am loving right now: Shalimar vintage extrait, Chanel Bois des Iles, Chanel no. 22, Le Labo Iris 39, Guerlain Iris Ganache
I'm wearing MFK Aqua Universails
Dans La Nuit Vers Le Jour Sans Adieu Je Reviens Vers Toi.
Congrats Gary on the 13,000 posts!
