Default Scents hated at first but now loved

Creed SWM - My first experience with this scent is that it stings to my nose. I gave another shot on this scent and now I was struck by its unique scent/ I didn't know what happened but I loved it since then.

Chanel Sycomore - At first, I was choked with the smokey vetiver appeal. After another shot, I was moved by its classy sophisticated vibe.

    How 'bout you?

Had a tough time with Nimitz by Yves de Sistelle the first time, but have loved it since.

I did not like Caravelle Epicee by Frapin so I chucked the sample at the bottom of my sample box. A year or so later I found it while searching for something else and tried it and really liked it. I guess taste changes and evolves over time.

Hate is a strong word, but fragrances I've been indifferent about and unmoved only to do a 180 are:

    Dior Homme
    Sycomore
    Terre D'Hermes
    Cuba
    Pure Havane

I would have to agree with Yatagan. Also, M7 took me months to appreciate.

L'eau D 'Issey Pour Homme by Issey Miyake.Initially I thought it smelled like a lemony dish washer. After repeated wearing did I appreciate this complex scent. It is not only fresh and lemony but also musky & woody in the dry down.

"Indifferent" is indeed a better word imo.

For me it was Guerlain Vetiver. I was indifferent to it for months after I bought it in 2010 then stored it away for almost a year, took it out again and finally appreciate it (and vetiver by its own) to the max and it didn't stop!
My Top '10' : (In no particular order)

    - Dolce & Gabbana: Pour Homme (vintage)
    - Van Cleef & Arpels: Pour Homme
    - Armani: Acqua di Gio Profumo
    - Davidoff: Leather Blend Edp
    - Ferrari: Essence Oud Edp
    - Chanel: Platinum Egoiste
    - YSL: Kouros (Fraîcheur)
    - Dior: Fahrenheit (Aqua)
    - Mancera: Cedrat Boise
    - Knize Ten

Yea, I never changed over from complete hate, usually that is enough to never touch the stuff again. But Musc Ravageur and LDDM grew on me from eh to love.

Didn't hate it, but I absolutely thought I would never wear Kiehl's Original Musk again after my first full wearing. It smelled too mature for me. It was "gifted" to me by my girlfriend (now wife) so I had to give it a chance -- so glad I did.

To me, Kiehl's Original Musk is a "grower"; it took me a few more wearings to understand this beautiful scent.

The only one I dismissed at first then liked later was Visit. The other way around happens more often.

Not just individual scents, but also scent categories altogether: at first, I thought that gourmand scents were unbearable, but I ended up developing a fondness for this category

Bijan men for men...I didn't really hate this but I found it a little hard to wear. It's your 80's powerhouse scent so it was at first attacking my nose but as soon as I realized it smelt very much alike obsession I started to respect this on more ans now has a spot in my rotation as a daring scent.

None, because I always reserve judgment on the weird or unexpected ones. It takes me several wears to decide how I feel about the scent and usually come to like it by then. I've had good look buying--- mostly the ones that make no particular impression on me stay on the shelf in the store. I maybe have done a 30-40 degree turn now and then but never a 180.

    Grey Flannel and Kouros.
Just because it happened to you doesn't make it interesting.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

These are my biggest positive 180's so far:

    Hermessence Vetiver Tonka
    MFK APOM pour Homme
    Chanel Cuir de Russie

And as a group, I'm learning to like/love vetiver more.

For me, two from Serge Lutens fit this description: Serge Noire and Chene. At first I found SN overly sharp and unpleasant, but now I love it. Chene smelled like some weird kind of candy to me at first.

... I've still never found the love for two I should theoretically like but don't care for at all - Mazzolari Lui and Grey Flannel. Oh, Van Cleef & Arpels PH goes into this latter category as well.

The Dreamer by Versace. I can't say I hated it the first time I tried it but I really didn't like it. Now, I love it and I get many compliments from people around me when I wear it.

I'm still waiting for my 180 on Musc Ravageur. It might never happen.

I hated Santal 33 so much when I first smelled it that I threw the touche out of my cab (at Houston & Broadway, so it barely made it five blocks). Now I love it. It all came down to smelling it on skin rather than paper.

I've also done a 140 on Bond No. 9 Harrods Oud Swarovski Crystal Limited Edition Celebrity Sparklepony. Having spent $330 on a blind buy is good motiviation to learn to love something.

I kept trying with Habit Rouge EdC but only semi-enjoyed it once, so I swapped it off. Recently, I acquired an EdT version of it (gold cap) and really enjoy it (top notes aren't as strong and longevity seems better, with more notes and better balance too).
