    Default Perfume Calligraphy by Aramis

A new unisex scent from Aramis, "geared towards the Middle Eastern market" according to Now Smell This:

Inspired by the beauty and prestige of the written word, Perfume Calligraphy by Aramis reflects a perfect pairing of ancient crafts, where Arabic script and modern fragrance come together as an artistic expression of one’s own personal style.

The fragrance captures the essence of the Middle Eastern woman and man by reflecting traditional roots with a modern twist. High quality ingredients and a long lasting signature ensure the fragrance portrays luxury and richness. The bottle, lit from within, in highlighted by an intricately detailed rich gold backdrop and is surrounded by the sense of Oud and Rose.

Additional notes include cardamom, lemon, cinnamon, myrrh, saffron, patchouli, amber and musk.
It's for sale at Harrods. Anyone smell it yet?

£105 for 100 ml Eau de Parfum

I can get a 3 ML sample of AL HARAMAIN - Attar Al Kaaba at a fraction of the price and with a magnificent aroma that most likely outshines this new creation to bring oud to the Western customers.

I am sorry to take up the next window for the next post because the Systems did not let me edit my post #3 - by blocking any editing with a grey area.

    Edit:

Have I misunderstood the intent ? The Original Poster said, "geared to the Middle Eastern market". So, this scent was created to be sold in the Middle East, as a Western Perfume House compromise by including oud as an ingredient but basically charming the customer with a Western concept scent ?

    Which is it ?
    A. Bring oud to the West ? or B. Via oud bring Western perfume to the East ?

Good question, Ursula. My guess is that this is exactly as it is being sold - something for more affluent Middle Eastern buyers while in London - more specifically at Harrods.

Interesting idea. Will it work? Not so sure....

This may be material for a separate topic: Are the Middle East customers at all impressed by Western Houses perfumes ?

After all, they have those precious ouds and oud blends ?

(I have never traveled in the Middle East, don't know WHAT is being displayed/sold over there ...)

    The caligraphy used is beautiful.

Keep in mind, summer is the high season in London for Arab tourists.

The release of this bottle is timely lol.

I'd still love to smell it. Estee Lauder/Aramis doesn't typically screw it up that bad.

Just saw the August edition of a local retailer's magazine that this is/will be available here soon Will definitely check it out, and buy if it's good. Haven't spent some hard-earned cash on a good fragrance recently!

It's very nice but far from new. Oud and Rose - a new combination? No!

I guess if you want to spend a little more on a bottle containing oud and rose juice then you might as well go for this as the bottle is gorgeous with the wooden cap.

    Smelled it.

Very strong. Almost industrially strong. Synthetic smelling all the way and not the high quality synthetic either. Very reminiscent of Montale actually.

Yes it is a beautiful bottle. I sampled this yesterday at Harrods and am very impressed with this fragrance. It is extremely masculine leather oud with a smoky dry oudh note. Finishes slightly sweet. I would have grabbed a bottle but it may be too bold and dark for my tastes. Closest comparable scents are Mona d Orio Cuir or Dior Leather Oud. For the price it is winner in my opinion.

Best new Ouds are from Aquq di Parma, Miller Harris- ltd Edition 500, Aramis, Heely and Armani Prive. It's raining Oud in London this summer.

I have this. Falls into the M7 category of oud frags, if that makes any sense. Quite strong initially, with a high-pitched oud accord which mellows after a bit, the leathery sweetness of the scent amplifying, albeit to a tolerable level, IMO. Synthetic? Most likely, but so are most frag anyway. Personally i think the Aramis is an improvement on what M7 has been "doing" in perfumery. I like Calligraphy a lot, and hope it succeeds both commercially and critically.
