Default Do you love Italian Cypress?

    Hello Basenoters,

With the cooler weather here I'm experimenting with a number of fragrances which I've found haven't worked for me in the high humidity and heat.

Tonight I've applied IC by Tom Ford and am really enjoying it and am looking forward to wearing it out on the weekend.

Is there a lot of love here for IC?

Please let me know your thoughts,

    Many thanks,

    Koala.

Have a sample of it. I don't like it. It kind of has a bit of a Polo Green vibe to it but imo Polo Green smells 10x better.

It was one of my favorite TF Private Blends when I first smelled the lineup. It has an 80's powerhouse vibe to it. It smells about 90% like Z-14 but with much higher end ingredients and minus the lemon. It has great silage and longevity. I wouldn't pay retail for it, but I think it's a great scent.

Kind of in the Rive Gauche pour Homme mode, but I preferred RGpH for a heck of a lot less money. Above average, but not even close to worth the expenditure, IMO.

It was the first of the Private Blend line that I bought, but incidentally is the one I wear the least!

Having said that I do enjoy it, but really only wear it in a corporate environment. It feels too formal for casual wear, and I tend to reach for it when I have to "get my Gordon Gekko on".

For me it isn't somethnig I'd reach for on a night out, or for casual day time wear with a polo and chino's for instance...

If it is really anywhere close to Polo Green then no, I do not like it.

The drydown of Italian Cypress is reminiscent of Polo. However, its projection and longevity are not something to write home about, and, in view of its price point, do sample first.

Enjoyed it, like many of the other private blends, but it doesn't stand out in particular. There are much better in the line IMO

I don't smell Polo Green in this at all. It's a dead ringer for Halston Z-14.

Count me in the "why would I pay for this when old formulation (pre-2011) Z-14 is just as good at literally 5% of the cost?" camp.

The first time I put Italian Cypress on I knew it was similar to something I had smelled, but I just couldn't put my finger on it. It drove me crazy. I thought it was a good scent, but not one I would buy. Then I ran across a thread here on BN where someone said it was very similar to "Polo green," and I thought...."bingo!" That's it....Polo green, although smoother and not so in your face. I loved Polo green but I have no desire to go down that road again.

Ever since I realized the similarity, I have had no desire to wear Italian Cypress.

Hate this sh*t - reminds me of Halston Z-14 mixed with Polo Green Original.

While I like Polo Green Original and own it, I only use it mixed with other frags (and I love 80's powerhouse scents.....)

Halston Z-14 smells like a medicine cabinet in a hospital full a sterilized patines with open gunshot wounds

So mix Z-14 and Polo Green and you have Italien Cypress - nasty cocktail, not for the faint hearted.....

It's not unique enough for me. If it was one third of the price I'd buy it, but it's currently far too expensive for what it is.

Thank you Gents for your thoughts on this.

It seems there is a real mixed reaction to IC with cost being the biggest factor.

Eh it's ok. A lot of people love it here on the forums. But it just doesn't vibe with me. I have a 50ml I wore once I'm trying to get rid of

I liked how TF IC smells but in wearing it several times I found it to be linear and too cloying for comfort.

I actually like Italian Cypress a great deal, BUT it didn't last as long as I had hoped, and I found the drydown very similar to Aramis Devin, which is significantly cheaper.
