today i'm wearing the combination of cuiron aftershave and eau de cologne. every time i wear this (which is rarely), it never ceases to amaze me how serious, minimalistic, bone dry, stark, severe, elegantly understated this masterpiece is. in a world of opulence, orientals, gourmands (oud, amouage, lutens, etc, etc, etc), this is like a haiku, or a japanese sand zen garden
or a single drop of water hitting the clear, calm surface of a mountain lake
in an interesting way, it reminds me of shiseido basala, same kind of severity, 'take it or leave it', 'don't care if you like me, this is who i am'. this fragrance doesn't need to shout and doesnt' care if you like it or understand it. i imagine a perfectly dressed man in his 40's, black suit, black tie, white shirt with silver cufflinks, sitting in his office on the top floor of a steel and glass building, it's 11 at night and he's watching the traffic 10 floors below but he can't hear the slightest noise and everything is black, grey and dark blue.
