    Default recommended frankincense perfumes

My mum mentioned she particularly liked a Lush bath product scented with frankincense and patchouli and she'd like a perfume with those notes. I'd like to get her something like that for her birthday, can anyone recommend a few perfumes which have noticeable frankincense and patchouli notes?
The actual bath product contains patchouli, frankincense and cinnamon leaf oil. I'm thinking either a feminine or unisex perfume. Her current favourite perfume is Chanel No. 5 but I'd like to get her something a bit more modern feeling
Thanks for any advice you can give :)

    Welcome!

There are very many frankincense based perfumes; I haven't smelled the Lush product you mention, but knowing Lush's soaps, I doubt it'll be close to true frankincense fragrances, which are sort of lemony and have a very churchy vibe. Perhaps patchouli could be safer. Before committing to a purchase, it would be good if she could smell it beforehand, or at least she could return it to the store (perhaps you can ask for a vial to go with the purchase?)

Chanel No 22 is close to Chanel no 5, but has incense and some swetness, so it could suit her. It is however somewhat expensive.

My personal favorite incense fragrance is CDG Avignon. Patchouli is listed as one of the notes:

Chanel Coromandel, since she already likes the Chanel "feel". Patch is more prominent than the incense though.

Isn't incense the general term for something burned for fragrance while frankincense is the incense grown in Oman and Somalia which is aka lubban.

That's the incense type I assumed the OP was asking about.

    hedonist,

The word "incense" is used both ways-- as a sort of shorthand for frankincense, and as a more generic term.

Portrait of a Lady by Frederic Malle would definitely fit that description (add rose in there and you have all the primary notes in it). Expensive, but IMO definitely worth it.
    Current Top Favorites:
    1) Portrait of a Lady original formula (EdP Frédéric Malle)
    2) Giorgio for Men vintage/V.I.P. for Men (Giorgio Beverly Hills)
    3) Dia Man vintage edt (Amouage)
    4)
Anat Fritz Original Formula and Classical (Anat Fritz) - tie
    4) Lalfeorosa (O'driù) - tie

    6)
Les Nombres d'Or Vetyver (Mona di Orio)
    7) Captain vintage (Molyneux)
    8) Tzora (Anat Fritz)
    9) Javanese Patchouli (Zegna) - tie
    9) Monsieur de Givenchy vintage (Givenchy) - tie
    9) Coeur de Vetiver Sacré (L'Artisan) - tie
    9) X for Men (Clive Christian) - tie
    9) Patou pour Homme Privé (Jean Patou) - tie
    9) Oud Shamash (The Different Company) - tie

The probability of a Lush soap containing true frankincense is rather slim ... one would have to smell the soap to see what it is about.

    Try:

Black Tourmaline by Olivier Durbano - Upon application, one experiences a wonderfully smoky leather accord and a burst of lively pepper, with its smooth, almost woody presence. A wondrous, campfire smell majestically ebbs and flows as well. This captivating opening meanders to the awating middle. Transitioning to the heart, heaps of heavenly sweet and orangey frankincense as well as medicinal and musty oud crest the potent, smoky wave, and are joined with a herbal pas de trois of fresh and slightly bitter cardamom, nutty and spicy coriander as well as a smattering of dirty and sweaty cumin. A halo of flavorful and dry woods caps the remarkable melange, and wends to the waiting base. An alluring blend of warm and fur-like musk, velvety and slightly sweet amber, bitter and foresty moss as well as a hint of dark and earthy patchouli, highlights the robust base and leads to an evocative drydown. This superbly mysterious and intense composition has average projection and longevity.

My understanding is that frankincense is the English word for lubban (olibanum) and other incense are labeled by ethnic group or country like Indian Incense, Japanese Incense and Nepali Incense.

So, bewilderness do you mean generic incense or frankincense?

Blue Skies and Fluffy White Clouds is scrumptious - and it does list Frankincense Resinoid as an ingredient, after Patchouli Oil.

I second the Neal's Yard No. 1 scent as one to test on her. (To see how well it lasts and whether it floats her boat!)

Wow, thanks for the amazing response, guys! Just to clarify, by frankincense I mean the frankincense that is also known as olibanum. Sorry for not being clear I didn't realise it had a different name outside of the UK. I'll look into some of your suggestions and pick a few for her to choose from

Maybe in the States Frankincense and incense mean the same. But like the UK, Frankincense here pertains to Olibanum and Incense is the generic term for something burned for smell.

Look at post # 4 above. Those are 100% frankincense.

Plus one for Portrait of a Lady and Coromandel.
i'd also like to suggest another favorite of mine, Amouage Opus VI.
The notes according to Luckyscent are:
Sichuan Pepper, Frankincense, St Thomas Bay, Periploca, Cypriol, Patchouli, Ambranum, Z11, Sandalwood, Cistus.

I too adore the recommended Black Tourmaline, but my personal experience is that it is a challenging fragrance for a woman to wear.

One more I thought of - Clive Christian V - a very good Frankincense scent IMO. (114)

I wanted so badly to get this because of the Amber dry down. I think I am about to spend the big bucks for it now. Black Tourmaline by Durbano is a masterpiece my personal favorite from him.
