coeur de vetiver sacre, la fumee and askew miss the mark a lot, if I get what you mean.

do you think patchouli and black pepper would be good additions to that mix?

Man, this is pretty tough for several reasons...

    1) You don't want something that includes those notes. You want something that smells EXACTLY like the sum of the parts. LOL
    2) I've been looking for something similar many times but, unfortunatley, I haven't come across many fragrances...
    3) The John Galliano suggested by Suga could fit the bill but, if memory serves me well, you already own it.

Here are a few suggestions that, IMO, come close to what you ask

    Athunis by Sigilli
    Fumidus by Profumum
    Tuba by Mekkanische Rose

My best suggestion, however, is to layer the Norma Kamali Incense with Onda Extrait. I'm serious

Yes patchouli and black pepper would be okay too.

I said you might be lucky because I made that mix for myself when I too was searching for it. It's pretty good, the vetiver is rooty/nutty variety. There is also choya loban in it which by itself smells like a mix of birch tar, smoke and resin ( it was resin once )

The room perfume Vetiver de Java by Parfums de Nicolai is a superbitter vetiver-leather, especially as a candle. Unfortunately, it doesn't work on the body, I tried the parfum d'ambiance on skin, and it's just too rough and lacks complexity when smelled this way. But you could use it for your bathroom - so you'd stop wasting perfect vintage juice!

Yes and uninaginably so Cuir was too much for me. And I am one who dotes on challenging over the top perfumes.
Have yet to try the latter two. Alfarom, how is the Profumi del Forte?

Wow sounds really nice. Is the vetiver you used single origin? Haitian or Indian Ocean?

Now that you made me realize that Ill probably use L'Occitane verbena or Lavendar for the bathroom.

The Undergreen is a modern masculine that smells much like a designer in disguise. I'm wearing the I Profumi Del Forte right now. It's a pretty nice woody/resins concoction with a sparkling aromatic citrus and lavender opening and a moderately sweet drydown. There's something in it that vaguely reminds me of Jubilation XXV (maybe the sweet-ish resinous base?) and something else I can't put my finger on. Overall this is a very nice fragrace and, as usual with I Profumi Del Forte, high-quality stuff but, if I understand what you're after, this may result a tad too sweet and not as austere (or challenging) as you want. That being said, if you'll have the chance, give it a test...this is very nice.

I'm getting a more precise idea on Versilia Vintage Boisè. I don't know if this is by Duchafour (considering he orchstrated a bunch of the I Profumi Del Forte), but it definitely has his style. Part Jubilation, part Kyoto, part Timbuktu with a touch of Eau D'Italie (the line not the eponymous fragrance) thrown in...

It seems there are quite a few vetivers combined with different resins. But as for birch tar, that's a different story.
I'm assuming your looking for a vetiver centered fragrance.

Maybe you could try a shot of Vetiver 46 with a dab of Patchouli 24 underneath.

This is tricky indeed. The closest thing I can think of is Amouage's Memoir Man. There's a noticeable vetiver note but it's part of a dry ashy woody accord (sandalwood, some smoky/ashy guiac, oakmoss). Birch tar? Maybe a bit - the scent is kind of smoky, actually it's more like carbonized wood. There is mint and absinthe/wormwood though, which kind of mimics the wintergreen elements of birch. There's a nice incense note too, although the scent is more woody than resinous.

Yes you're right there there are many vetiver and resins medleys.

I'm not looking for something vetiver dominant though. Just as the title says.

Maybe discontinued- but still available on Douglas.de for some odd reasons - G Man by Gainsboro may be an additional suggestion to the already great frags mentioned so far. Though, only a partial hit, since it has virtually no perceptible vetiver at all, instead the resins and birch tar notes are nearly overwhelmingly strong in this one

Another scent that comes to mind, although I haven't given it a proper testing yet (just an arm swipe once, and testing on paper) is Amouage's Tribute. Lots of smoky vetiver there, incense, dark jasmine, a big patch note, etc.

There are NOT a lot of fragrances that have birch tar in them. Sometimes frankincense can double for birch bark tar pretty and do it more subtly too. These all have at least two of vetiver, birch tar, tree resins, along with other appropriate stuff.

    Some ideas here:

    Slumberhouse Norne
    Profumum Fumidus
    Slumberhouse Vikt
    Morabito Or Black
    Black Tourmaline
    Type B Henrik Vibskov
Bond No. 9 Harrod's Ltd. Edition Oud
    Profumum Arso

I remember thinking to myself that Black Tourmaline was restrained in creation. I expected/wanted more.

Can't quite out my finger on it but nothing specific. Basically I am aware of each of these notes in individuality and know that they would be heavenly in an accord.

Tribute is nice but lacks the birch tar and resins note. Plenty of tobacco. Divine in it's own right.
