    Default Men wearing Shalimar Initial

Just as many men here wear Shalimar (and other Guerlains marketed to women), there are men taking to the new Shalimar Initial launched this year.

Forget the pink juice and the girly bottle. I find this as a unisex, a citrusy, green top note and midnotes that are mildly floral, with a great amber drydown.

How many men here enjoy this scent?

Sissy! Jk. I got to sample this a couple of weeks ago and while it's a little too perfumey for myself, I can see the attraction to it. Quality release.

It takes a man with a set of balls to wear what he wants to wear!

I admire a man who can look beyond the bottle and marketing and have the self confidence to pull off the scents he enjoys. This is true fragrance connoisseurship.

/: I really don't enjoy this fragrance. I'd rather smell Terre D'Hermes on a man myself lol

that's the less important thing to me.

about the main question I must say that I tried it the other day from a bottling paper and I didn´t feel it unwearable at all, it has some gourmand stylish features that make it very unisex, even manly.IMO.
I see it much more unisex than mitsouko.
Btw , the paper in my room was 'flooding' all the space with its smell for about two days.

I like Shalimar, and several of its flankers. However, I do not like Shalimar Initial.

Tried it, as I like Shalimar and other scents for women, but the top notes almost made me feel a little sick. Too rich/greasy?...just something that didn't agree with me.

I think it's a lot like Dior Homme Intense - with most of the cocoa stripped out, and a bit of soft, warm animalic stuff added back in. Hope that's not too heretical!

    Great stuff.

Not bad compared with last years releases. I think it's perfectly unisex, maybe too powdery for my tastes. I belong to those that prefer, as bonoanimoes said, Mama Shalimar (she can actually be Grandma Shalimar, how old is she? 86?)
... And do me a favor - don't disturb my friend. He's dead tired.

    Hear, hear!

I just bought my sister this oldie but goodie for Christmas and I'm madly in like with it. I hear that Habit Rouge is it's leathery brother but that it's been reformulated unfortunately to a shell of it's former glory. A glory that Keith Richards swore buy in his hay days. I've been interested in having a female perfume to wear around and this sounds like the one.

Men, women, fish or fowl. This juice is classic.

I can understand why it is heretical for many. When I tried it I ventured using the brandname was a way to reduce the chances of a flop: IMHO, it does not have much in common with the original one.

I agree wholeheartedly, it is a very well accomplished scent, even though its points in common with the original formulation of Dior Homme Intense.

I would grab a bottle provided I wouldn't have such a vast amount of bottles.

I liked it at first. On paper, it was wonderful. Then I tried wearing it - and found the caramel at the base much too cloying. So I prefer Shalimar to Shalimar Initial.

To me it is closer to Dior Homme than to Dior Homme Intense.

I absolutely love it and think it's a quality scent. I'm not sure I've got big enough (or hairy enough) balls to wear it... even though I want to.

I couldn't get this stuff out of my head after trying it at Sephora a couple weeks ago. The opening is very animalic -- almost as much as Jicky. So much so, that I think I detect cumin along with the typical Guerlain civet. As a greenhead, the green opening adds a nice touch, but it's really just a thin veneer on the main theme of Shalimar Initial, a deep, rich sour cream accord with iris and caramel.

I don't see much relation to Shalimar, which doesn't do much for me in its current form. (I assume the vintage juice would be more my thing.) Shalimar Initial has the Guerlain DNA -- a light touch of bergamot, herbs and lemongrass along with a solid dollop of civet -- written all over it. Wasser really knows his sh*t. I have trouble understanding how this juice fits into the marketing angle . . . isn't it much more complex and sophisticated, and well, artistic, than it ought to be, considering it's aimed at a younger audience? Also, it's not all that sweet. The caramel accord is very well judged, more animalic-milky than sugary.

I submit that, were this juice released by a niche house, it would be marketed as a unisex semi-gourmande. I don't usually even wear unisex frags, but I got a sample and am gonna give it a shot. It reminds me of a modernized lavenderless Jicky -- in a very good way. Color me impressed.
