    Default The plum note...

The more I analyze my collection and which scents I love most, I come to some conclusions that surprise me. I already had a thread started about Patchouli which I don't care for alone, but many of my favorite scents use patchouli in them, that was a surprise to me when I discovered how many in my collection actually had patchouli.

Now I am finding that almost anything that has Plum as a note really attracts me too. (I discovered a long while back that I liked Oud.)

The two that I find that has all three (plum, oud and patchouli) are Andy Warhol and New York Oud and I have both.

So the search is on for more fragrances with a plum note. Open to suggestions and for your thoughts on plum in men's fragrances.

Creed Acqua Fiorentina has a definite and noticeable plum note and it is acceptably wearable for anyone despite the somewhat feminine presentation.

As Mr Fragrev was suggesting, Lutens is the king of the candied plum note. In addition to the reference FdB, there's also Boxeuses (or feminite de cuir), Sarrasins, El Attarine, and many others.

No oud, but for plum (and plenty of other fruits) plus patchouli there's Piguet Visa (modern version).

I had purchased Acqua Fiorentina by Creed, but returned it inasmuch as it was not to my liking. Definitely, sample first.

On the designer side, I recommend Lagerfeld Woody. It goes great with the other two in the line, Light and Floriental, for layering but works great alone too.

You can get it from the Perfumeshoppe in Scottsdale, Arizona. That's where I got mine.

    Cool Re: The plum note...

Light plum: Chant d'Aromes (Extrait, if you can find it)

Full-on plum: Paure by Guerlain (EDT if you can find it) Paure is the plum iteration of peachy Mitsouko.

Both of the above are remarkably, plum!

That is a tough choice because I like them both. I think I like New York Oud the best but Andy is one I wear more often. Andy is spicier and NY Oud is more rose and floral.

The old Boss Elements has a significant plum note. It's still available, just don't confuse it with the newer Hugo Element or Boss Elements Aqua.

The Gap: The Original has a very pronounced plum note mixed with leather. You'd probably like this one more.

Boozy plum with patchouli, almost bitter chypre feel.

I remember one of the Canali's having plum I think, maybe the black diamond or double black or something.
Also something about one of the Paul Smith frags rings a bell.
lastly, Armani Privee Cuir Amethyst probably doesn't have plum but it feels like it.

Do a search in the directory, and look for the note "plum"... that should help!
    Tom Ford Splits!!!!
Tobacco Vanille, Tuscan Leather, Oud Wood, Noir de Noir,
Plum Japonais, Tobacco Oud, Café Rose, Lavender Palm, etc...

Most of the time I am very proud of the Basenotes community. Time after time I have witnessed the thoughtfulness, empathy & genuine friendship that members of this community extend to others - oldtimers & newcomers alike. There are other times, however, when egos get the upper hand and civility goes out the window. My philosophy is that I won't say anything here that I would not say if you were standing in front of me. Welcome to Basenotes, each and every one of us. ~ TwoRoads

I've been on quite a plum kick lately ... I just bought Andy Warhol this past weekend after one sniff. The plum was THAT good!

More plum fragrances that I like:

Annick Goutal Mon Parfum Cheri, Par Cammile: I agree with mr reasonable, it is full-on gorgeous.
Bottega Veneta: no plum listed in the pyramid, but oh it's there. Soft, suede leather and plum that reminds me a little of Daim Blonde.
Boxeuses: More leather than BV, the plum note becomes sweeter with time, but the wood and smoke keep it in check.
Cuiron: leather and tart plum. It's wonderful, but so hard to find ... pity.
JM Pomegranate Noir: Quite spicy with the plum feeling very fresh and juicy.
Kinski: very strong, pepper-y, smoke-y, herb-y, skank-y wood with some plum thrown in!
Liaisons Dangereuses: Rich, dark, and sexy. Some reviews say too femme for a man, but I would love to smell this on a guy!
    I've trademarked the color bleu
