Thread: Signature scent

    Default Signature scent

What defines a signature scent? Is it something you wear everyday or just a favorite? What determines it?

    Just curious.

Well, i'd say a signature scent is a signature scent is a signature scent. When I smelled it for the first time, I knew what it was. It also happens to be one that I wear more than anything else, but not every day.

More objectively, I'd say it was a scent that represents you, either to yourself or to others or both.

I see, it's basically like if you could have a theme song playing wherever you go type of thing.

    Thanks.

'Theme Song' is a very good analogy ! I like that .
I think it can also be a scent that you love and reach for most often -it becomes a favorite, sonetimes without realizing it. In this case , the scent picks you instead of the other way around .

I see it as one scent you wear all the time nothing much else.

Definitely the scent picks you. There was a time when men, in particular, and also a lot of women wore only one fragrance all the time. So that scent would be part of their identity. Nowadays, people who are into fragrance usually own and wear several so this old idea of signature scent is obsolete.

This is true for some. However, at work there's a customer rep who always wears the same musk. It's nice, because I can always tell when he arrives at a meeting without having to look around.

To me it would probably be one you see yourself picking up more often all year round.

Agree. In theory, I think you could hate your own signature fragrance, but a fragrance only becomes signature by frequency of wear and it would be odd if you always used a fragrance that you hated.

Also, I think you can have a signature fragrance among several others, as long as you wear it often enough for other people to associate you with it.

+1 ... The above highlight what I consider a "signature scent" to be.

From the point of view of others, it is a fragrance easily identified with you by others, because of the frequency of you wearing same in their presence.

From your point of view, a fragrance that inordinately is consciously chosen by you to reflect your person.

Yes, this. The term "signature" to me implies that other people smell it on you and recognize it as your smell. But I guess you could have different signature scents for different people or groups of people in your life (work colleagues, friends, significant others, etc.).

In my case, I am more defined by a "heavy rotation", up to 20-30 or even more scents I do wear on a regular basis and though notes, houses, designers, accords, concepts, mixtures, ingredients, brand images are highly eclectic, they do create a rather stabilized, albeit at times varied and occasionally changing overall outlook about the scent ranges I might like and I might be associated with.
