Default What follows a love affair with CdG?

I'm in love with the Comme des Garcons sampling experience and I'd love some suggestions for branching out as the end of my love-at-first-sniff honeymoon nears the horizon. I want to order a killer set of non-CdG samples this weekend. Which samples should I add to my cart based on my CdG relationship pattern and a few caveats (more synthetic-weird the better; realistic greens and florals are cool; not a huge fan of heavy incense, musk, or vanilla notes)?

I found this thread that might be useful for you. http://www.basenotes.net/threads/262...fic-Time-Place

I don't really have experience with these fragrances, but recently I've been reading about and have become really interested in sampling scents from CdG, CB I Hate Perfume, and Demeter. Even the Blood Concept line sounds intriguing. They all seem to be more about capturing specific notes, ideas, memories, etc. rather than spraying yourself to just smell pleasant. Sorry for my lack of actual experience with what I'm suggesting, but I hope it helps!

It'S funny I think I kind of started out the same. The first brand I got into was Comme des Garcons and I really loved their weird fragrances, my first buy being Soda. Nowadays they don't really do it for me anymore. Somehow I became quite bored of interesting concepts in perfume since it doesn't really work as well in perfume as it does for a fashion collection. Nevertheless, there are some great CdG fragrances that I still really like. I think you'll slowly know which notes you're interested and then start looking for more natural smelling perfumes as well.

I think instead of French Lover you might want to try Angeliques sous la Pluie (has the same heart as French lover but more unisex).
I could see some Annick Goutal fragrances being interesting for you from the unisex and female line. Maybe Tilleul by Parfums d'Orsay? All of those aren't very synthetic-weird though.
    M/Mink by Byredo?
Silver Factory and other by Bond N9 (a lot of them have metallic synthetic feel to them)?
    The lighter Nasomatto fragrances?
...oh and have a closer look at État libre d'Orange! The also do more experimental "weird" stuff.

    Definitely! Nice suggestions.

You might also consider a brief period of Mainstream Mania. CdG can twist your universe quite a bit. Macy's provides a bit of a reality check.

After that, try A Lab On Fire. They have some CdG meets IFF stuff. Very interesting.

Hi there, you have some great taste already

I'd recommend moving onto these brands:

For excellent designer brands that verge on avant-garde compositions -
Tauer - Lonestar Memories, Orange Star, Incense Rose
Serge Lutens - Tubereuse Criminelle, Miel De Bois, Muscs Koublai Khan
Parfumerie Generale - Cuir Venenum, Intrigant Patchouli

    For avant-garde(ish) creativity -
CB I Hate Perfume - In The Summer Kitchen, At The Beach 1966, Wild Hunt, In Memory Of Kindness - also Christopher Brosius' accords are very over the top, you can buy an individual accord of numerous things such as: Forest Floor, Old Fur Coat, Leather Football, Pesto
Smell Bent - Commando, Desperado, Woody, Mountain High, Otter Luvr amongst many many others...

There are also brands which specialise in avant-garde creations but often they never meet their target:
    Blood Concept - O, AB

    +1 Vero Profumo - Onda

There's tons to branch out in to

For more Comme Des Garcons you need to try:
    Stephen Jones, Avignon, Tea

    Humiecki & Graef - Blask + Skarb
Histoires de Parfums - Petroleum - Ambreram - Rosam
Cale Fragranze d Autore - Fulgor
    Boadicea the Victorious - Complex
    Biehl Parfumkunstwerke - gs02
    LesNez - L'Antimatiere

Try S-ex by S-Perfumes and Cumming by Alan Cumming ( which was actually done by Christopher Brosius from CB I Hate Perfume)
