Default pretty disappointed with creed M.I.

Hi with all the reviews etc on Millesime imperial i was expecting alot more, alot of lemon and kind of generic smelling to me certainly not worth the price tag seems like a designer frag, on the other hand i loved green irish tweed the quality stands out but with M.I. was left very disappointed, was expecting alot more

    o.0?

The generic part I understand, but lemon????

Are you sure you didn't get a bottle filled with some type of household cleaner?

I'm not a fan either though. I hope you didn't have to learn your lesson on a 4oz bottle

People tend to either embrace or pan it. I fall on the side of those who embrace it.

I think it's nice, I find it to be pretty un-boring and absolutely pleasing to wear. I hate to bring this up again, but Creed's do vary batch to batch (and this one seems especially susceptible) , the real star of this is the watermelon-like smell coupled with salt and other fruit.

Did you buy it from an online discounter?

It's no big deal. Aventus and Original Santal blow it out of the water.

I recently had the opportunity to try MI and I think it's a wonderful frag, fresh and soft at the same time. I sampled it alongside its most infamous copycat, Sean John's Unforgivable, and even to my untrained nose the difference was pronounced. Though I could see some similarity, Unforgivable seemed to literally burn my nose, while MI was infinitely more pleasant and nuanced. If you think MI smells generic, try it next to Unforgivable sometime. Might give you a different perspective.

GIT, meanwhile, just smells to me like an explosive beachhead of green notes with not much else going on. Maybe I should try it next to Cool Water.

Something is wrong if the o.p. smelled lemon from a bottle of MI. Yes, there are batch variations, but that's more in terms of the amount of melon/salt/ambergris/florals you smell, not a new note altogether.

Smelling lemon suggests the bottle is not authentic, though I don't usually suggest that.

I recently got a 2011 batch of MI too and I like it a lot. The melon and sea salt notes are very well balanced, I don't really get a lemon note from it. My only complaint is poor longevity, although that may be olfactory fatigue. I still need to spend some time testing it out, maybe I'll end up sticking to Love and Luck after my bottle runs out.

I'm also ever so slightly underwhelmed by MI, although again I get no lemon in it whatsoever. To me it has that unmistakeable 'Creed' smell about it, in common with several of their other scents including GIT.

I agree with this. No lemon in MI for me either and it is a very well crafted scent. Fruity and salty yet unisex and very aromatic. Not for the winter for sure.

The similarities to GIT are quite astonishing. Now I'm more sensitive to scents than I used to be I can tell that GIT and MI have an identical base with only top notes different. One is greener the other fruitier. I don't care for GIT either. It is very overhyped and too dated now anyway.

Love GIT and MI. See no simularities between them, and certainly no lemon in MI.

Wearing it on my forearm at the moment. It's not lemony, but I do get a bit of a sour vibe (I think from the blend of watermelon & aquatic notes). IMO, the salty note is too strong. Longevity is pretty weak as well - I get 4 hours max.

The hype online set me up for a big let down. I don't think it's bad, was just underwhelmed.

MI is one of my all-time favorite frags, and worth every penny in my opinion. However I have on two occasions bought bottles from online discounters that smelled nothing like MI is supposed to smell like. They smelled like weak lemon water, as the OP described. I would not have paid $20 for those bottles.

If you bought it from an online discounter, return it and get your money back. Buy a sample from a trusted site such as Perfumed Court, so that you know what MI is supposed to smell like. My guess is you have a bad bottle or a fake.

I figured out it was Creeds variation in batches

I feel the same. It smells great, but it's gone in a few short hours.

The last tester i tried in Abu Dhabi duty free, the Melon was non existent. Very harsh, salty and bitter, not pleasant at all. Smelt like a completely different scent to my decant at home.

There's much talk of batch variations with Aventus but i believe MI suffers far worse from this inconsistency.

I'm lucky the bottle I have the melon note is lush and up front and it lasts for eight to nine hours.

Same here. Fresh, long lasting with good enough projection, can't ask for more for a perfume in this category.

I think the bottles from 2010 took a real quality hit and don't smell like what MI typically should do. If you avoid those then you should be fine.

I've never come across one that smells of lemon though.

This sounds like a 2010 batch of MI to me. I only recently got MI for this reason...

I see what you mean about Aventus as well. The MI variation means it is a completely different scent...
