Thread: Black Soul vs. Black Orchid
I read somewhere that Ted Lapidus Black Soul is a reasonable substitute for Tom Ford Black Orchid. . .
True, false, maybe. . .?
I've sampled Black Orchid and it is very, very nice. However, it is also way, way, way beyond my budget!
Any other suggestions?
Black Soul is a substitute for 1 Million. It's basically a less sweet and spicier 1 Million. Really nice fragrance at any price.
Some day's you're the statue and some days you're the pigeon.
A few years ago I visited the Fragrance Shop when they had a New Orleans outlet. They claim to be able to reproduce a number of brand scents using their oils. I wasn't overly impressed except for one -- their version of Tom Ford Black Orchid was terrific. You can order samples of their products or individual oils. I'd be curious to know how you like their fragrance.
In a world where 6 million people are added each month, every landscape matters.
Thanks for the suggestions, BN'ers!
Now I'm thinking it was Black Soul Imperial and not Black Soul (?).
Oddly, the Black Orchid was great for the first hour and then it settled into a standard vanilla-amber skinscent.
The only similarity is that both fragrances start with the word 'Black'. Black Orchid is my SOTD and bears no resemblance to the Ted Lapidus offering.
Thinking about it, there is nothing that I can think of that smells like Black Orchid; it is one of the most unique fragrances out there.
If you're looking for a replacement for Black Orchid, I highly recommend J D Pozo's In Black. A lot like Black Orchid, only even more complex, very different. Marketed as women's but definitley unisex. Projects less than Black Orchid though.
Black Soul is a a tad blod-less version of One Million. I gave away mine, not my cup of tea.
E.L sensous Noir reminds me a lot of black orchid
Black Orchid. Black Soul I found quite nice and fun but wasn't really for me.
I don't think they smell alike at all. Black Orchid is much better IMO.
Bath and Body Works has one calle Black Amethyst that is very inexpensive. Try before you buy though because although it smells similar it is not as good as Black Orchid. My wife wears Black Amethyst occassionally and I wear Black Orchid and I can really tell the difference although she thinks they smell "close enough." THe other thing you should consider with Black Orchid is that a tiny bit goes a vvvvvvveeeeeerrrrrryyyyyyy long way. One or two sprays (if that) is all you want to apply and that will last you 18+ hours (at least it does on me). So Black Orchid is totally worth the money IMO.
