Worth owning both imo. They're nothing alike.
Not sure if I should, so just wondering really. Is Aventus comparable to Chanel's Antaeus? I have and love Aventus, but having tried Antaeus recently, I'm tempted to get a 50ml bottle (right, like I need another fragrance!). Based on my wardrobe, would you recommend this as one to have in the fragrance wardrobe, or is it overkill? After all, Aventus is manly enough is it not?
Worth owning both imo. They're nothing alike.
Totally different so if you like it buy it.
Wow, super fast responses - thanks both!
There are so different like an apple & an orange.
Based on your collection, you seems like like somethings fresh, but Antaeus is a leather chype with civet so it is not fresh at all.
However, it is a must-try since it is one of the classic & a masterpiece.

I would get Antaeus. Legendary fragrance!

they only share some common letters and sound like one is the anagram of the other...that's it.

IMHO, both are worth getting, considering also the fact that they are not alike.
I would say no.

Antaeus is perfectly suited to our climate. Jump on it.
Definitely one to try then after work! Thanks for all the replies so far
They are nothing alike. Aventus is fresh and modern. Antaeus is a spicy leather that is somewhat dates. The leather didn't come through all the spices enough for me.
Is the juice worth the squeeze?
Although I'm not a fan of modern Antaeus, its smell is utterly different from Aventus (which, to me, smells like nothing else). No reason not to have both if you enjoy them. That seems to be the consensus. Though if Pipsta thinks Antaeus smells like spicy latex condoms, I wonder where he's shopping . . . .
Current Top Five:
1. Creed Green Irish Tweed
2. Tom Ford Neroli Portofino
3. Hermes Concentre d'Orange Verte
4. Bond No. 9 New Haarlem
5. Creed Original Vetiver
I'm gonna have to disagree with most of the guys here and say that I feel these 2 fragrances smell pretty darn close to one another. Depending if you don't mind 2 fragrances that similar, I would say go for it. But if not, then stay away and find something a bit different than Aventus.
Seeking: Bottles/decants : of Feeling Man, Gucci pour Homme, Essence of John Galliano, Nicole Miller (vintage), Opium pour Homme, Oxford & Cambridge, Concentré D'Orange Verte...etc.
Seeking decant/sample of Jil Sander Feeling Man, Cacharel Nemo, Bijan for Men EDC, Lanvin for Men, Giorgio VIP, Il Lancetti and other old school frags ....etc. I have samples to swap.
Please PM me !
Try to find vintage Antaeus if you can its really worth it
The only thing they have in common is that they are utter shit.

Yes, but if you like Aventus, Antaeus is very, very different. Sample before you buy.
Is it worth owning a pair of Timberland boots and a pair of Brooks Brothers suit & tie shoes ?
Is it worth owning a Ferrari & a Bentley ?
They share NOTHING other than they both are great smelling scented water, you can spray on yourself to smell better.
No similarities at all - other than they both start with an A.

Now with 418 bottles in my collection
They are completely different but both worth having. Enjoy.
I think that both have a similar vibe in the drydown, so I understand the comparison. Antaeus is good, but I find Aventus better overall.
These two scents are polar opposites of eachother
They are very different, I agree, however I can easily see the OP's comparison of Antaeus' dark woods atmosphere to the smokiness of Aventus.
Antaeus smells like a bugspray to me. Yuck.
If I had Aventus I would see no reason to get Antaeus though.
Not at all, specially if you collect fragrances based on their brandnames: it would be redundant for they both have the "us" in common.

I do not understand the comparison between the two, for they are both world's apart from one another. However, they are both great fragrances and make excellent additions to your fragrance wardrobe.
Yes. They are quite different.
If you have Aventus you don't need to buy any other fragrances, so no, Antaeus isn't worth getting.

1. Axe Kilo
2. Lectric Shave
3. Vicks Vapor Rub
4. Febreze Pour Homme
5. Preferred Stock
This haaas to be a troll post. It doesn't make any sense. The two are in two totally different zip codes.
These are NOTHING alike. Aventus is modern, Antaeus is old. Both are very good, but if you are < 35 years old, you may want to hold off on Antaeus...
1. Creed - Spice & Wood
2. Creed - Aventus
3. Dior - Vetiver
4. by Kilian - Incense Oud
5. Puredistance - Black
6. by Kilian - Cruel Intentions
7. Armani Privé - Oud Royal
8. Brückner - Aoud 1
9. Creed - Royal English Leather
10. House of Matriarch - Blackbird
There are some major issues regarding Antaeus' composition. The opening is majestic, but then it kind of dies. I got rid of my bottle (thank God) after I had worn it, like, once or twice. No sillage, no nothing, don't buy it!
It's incredibly long lasting, but it always stays so close to the skin. I am talking about the current version. The opening is great and then it gets real stuffy
Worth getting Antaeus even if you have every other scent in the world. Aventus is nice, but Antaeus is a must.
Antaeus is a Demigod. Strong, like a god, and gentle as a man, Antaeus belongs to those perfumes of expressed individuality and strong character which emphasize masculinity ( Another Alpha macho powerhouse next to Kouros ) A drop of this can stay anywhere from 5-8 days in clothing, and will change during it's course.
Aventus celebrates strength, vision and success, inspired by the dramatic life of war, peace and romance lived by Emperor Napoleon. If you get the right batch you can get anywhere from 2-5 days base note longevity with a couple sprays in your clothes, otherwise be prepared for only a few hours of projection. Yet very fresh, very attractive.
I love both, they are unique, and masculine. but slightly prefer the Powerhouse due to longer longevity, and multiple scent stages.
Respect to both Houses.
Lol at this thread. You've come a long way in 2 years, rum.
Boy, who dug up this old fossil? Obviously irrelevant to the OP over 2 years later but as most others have already said they have nothing in common. One is excellent and recommended (vintage Antaeus) and the other isn't (the lesser "A").

Is it worth buying Clive Christian No. 1 if you already own Molecule 01?
"Follow your nose. It always knows." -- Toucan Sam
Chanel seriously needs to get their vintage reformulations on point, same for Yves Saint Laurent ( Kouros )
Way Way different. Antaeus is a classic in the likes of Eau Savage, Robert Piguet Cravache, Chanel Pour Monsieur, Caron 3 homme. they are not in the same category at all.
I would say yes, they are different enough to own both, but if the OP thinks that above, and wants to keep a small wardrobe, it woulde be better to decide which one he likes better.
Aventus redundant with Antaeus? Other than a similar spelling, they share very little in common, IMO.
Yes. Rive Gauche has more to do with Antaeus than Aventus. It's one of the best Chanel offerings.
