    Default It's . . . Grrrrrlain! Where do I start?!

Who knows why, but I've never tested anything from the house of Guerlain (Yet I've sampled the gamut from Mona Di Orio to Xerjoff to Abercrombie ). I've listed a few I want to start with and would appreciate anyone's insights as to what you love, what you hate, and where I should start etc... Thanks!

    Bois d'Armenie
    Cologne du 68
    L'Instant de Guerlain Pour Homme/Extreme
    Chamade Pour Homme
    Coriolan
    Heritage
    Mouchoir de Monsieur

L'instant de guerlain/extreme & guerlain homme are the only Guerlains I like from the ones I've tried.

Both of the Arsene Lupin are amazing, I particularly love Dandy. Guerlain Homme Intense is good. I love Iris Ganache and Cuir Beluga. Habit Rouge in incrcedible. Shalimar and Shalimar Parfum Initial are really amazing.

There are very few Guerlains I dislike. There are some I'm indifferent to, but most I either like, liker very much or love dearly.

Thanks for everyone's input so far. I want to add I generally don't love in your face fragrances that are overly sweet--nothing against them, I just tend to get nauseous

Then start with Derby. It is discreet and refined and neither sweet nor in-your-face. Habit Rouge is a masterpiece but it is sweet and bold. Coriolan is another gentleman with good table manners.
You'll want to start with Derby, Coriolan and Vetiver if you prefer quiet and dry. Next move to Jicky, Habit Rouge and Heritage which might be the sweetest of the masculines.

Guerlain is one the best bangs for your buck BY FAR. You should be familiar with all of their fragrances.

I can't wait to sample their 3 new arabian inspired fragrances.

*You live in NYC like me....go to Saks or Bergdoff Goodman. No need to spend a dime.

Thanks Thatmakesscents! I like Bergdorff's but they separate the men/women's scents. I guess I'll head over to Saks (though I'm really not fond of the SA's there haha--no offense to any NYC Saks SA's that are here). Which Guerlains do you suggest?

Eau du Coq and Eau de Cologne Imperiale are some of the best dousing colognes available for a reasonable price. They have so many uses, both in Winter and Summer. Though Eau du Coq is the more versatile of the two.

I am not a fan of the newer Guerlains - Bois d'Armenie, etc. The classics are classic indeed; one must admire the artistry even of the ones one cannot wear oneself. Mouchoir de Monsieur is one of the best civetous perfumes available, even if it is said to be 'tamed' compared to its older version. I still enjoy it. Shalimar is splendid, though not Shalimar Initial, which seems to have a note of caramel.

I absolutely love the minty rum notes in Guerlain Homme - one of the very newest scents from the house. Great for Spring.

Hard to go wrong with Guerlain. Just dive in. Might start by doing a sampling spree at a good department store. Many shopping mall fragrance stores carry a few Guerlains. Go on a Guerlain shopping safari and bag the big game. You won't be disappointed.

Start at the beginning -- the oldest Guerlain, and oldest perfume overall, in continuous production since 1889:

    JICKY

That would be Imperiale (1853), unless we are excluding the eaux. But I agree - Jicky is a good place to start, followed by Mouchoir de Monsieur, Habit Rouge, Heritage, Derby, Mitsouko, Vol de Nuit, Shalimar, ...

    Spiritueuse Double Vanillie
    Tonka Imperlie
    L'Instant Extreme

Although I recognize there quality, I am not a fan of Derby or Vetiver. Jicky did not overwhelm me.

Guerlain is a fantastic house with good juice. I have Bois d'Armenie which is a sweet incense and very nice, but it will most likely be a love or hate type scent. If you love it let me know. I am willing to swap this one.
Five that I am enjoying right now

    1) Sel de Vetiver by The Different Company
    2) Spiritueuse Double Vanille by Guerlain
    3) Bois des Iles by Chanel
    4) Devin by Aramis
    5) Coromandel by Chanel
