That was Prince, and he was ordered to pay the manufacturer 4. mill. in damages.

    From The Hollywood Reporter:
"Prince was sued by Revelations Perfume and Cosmetics in 2008 for failing to promote the perfume, which was supposedly inspired by his 2006 album 3121. The company said it spent millions of dollars in out-of-pocket expenses in reliance upon Prince's commitment to promote, and when the matter went before a special referee, the estimation of actual damage was accepted. Now, a New York Supreme Court judge has confirmed the award."

    OY.

    Don't recall who it was.

I mean, really. It's money that's so easy, even Charlie Sheen considered "doing a fragrance" during his now infamous melt-down. YOU WOULD THINK that people could handle just showing up and being their usual motley self. You know?

Sometimes I get the impression that the celebs with lots of frags may simply be the pros who can be relied upon to hold up their end of a contract.

There are a few. I think Etat Libre d'Orange made two very nice celebrity scents, one for Rossy de Palma, and one for Tilda Swinton. From interviews it sounded like Swinton was very involved and particular about what she wanted, it had to smell like her kitchen

One things for certain; Jordan doesn't wear Tim McGraw.

Michael Jordan Cologne I've always thought of as a very classy scent. I think it probably would have done better if it hadn't been one of the early celebrity scents.

As for celebrities, I recall reading how Eva Longoria was wearing and handing out as farewell presents bottles of her scent to her colleagues on the last day of shooting Desperate Housewives. (Pretty good scent too - my wife and niece really like it)

Quite frankly, were I a celebrity, I'd find it unimaginable to not take pride in wearing my own scent or scents. I recollect that Bijan spent quite some time with Michael Jordan when coming up with his first scent.

I, too, have heard Sarah Jessica Parker was pretty involved in the actual development of her scents. I believe she mentioned trying to understand scent development when the creative process was occurring on her first two scents so she could have her own personal input and direction. She seemed to sound somewhat involved in the creative choices of her third scent, but also expressed that it was not typical her and was rather thought out with team input making it surprising and something new that she wasn't used to.

I'm pretty sure she's mentioned wearing at least one of them in interviews before

My guess is that very few celebrities actually wear the fragrances they endorse.

In the case of celebrity fragrances, I doubt they wear them. In most cases, they're probably presented with a ready to market (or nearly ready) fragrance and a business proposal. Some celebrities are such whores for marketing that I wouldn't be surprised if they wore the scents bearing their names (cough*seancombsdiddypuffypuffdaddypdiddyseanjohn* cough).

In the case of a celebrity as a spokesperson, such as Justin Timberlake for Givenchy Play, I suspect it's part of his deal to wear the fragrance at certain public functions during a given period of time as probably defined in a contract, such as a list of red carpet events from March 2012 through Feb 2013, for example. Then again, it's possible that the only time he ever smelled the stuff was at the contract signing and maybe again at the photo shoot.

It's a business. The celebrities are just used for marketing. And it works. It seems bewildering to me that anyone would buy something because it has Paris Hilton's name on it. I'd think that's a reason NOT to buy something... but... people do it.
This is very close. A handful of perfume companies that specialize in celebrity scents approach publicists and angle a contract to develop and market celebrity fragrances. The celebrity can help develop the brief and is usually interviewed about their scent preferences. Some stay actively involved through development, but most simply give a thumbs up or down to samples sent as the fragrance develops. They then give final approval of the bottle, box, and scent and negotiate launch publicity. Most know nothing about fragrances unless they wear them already. Often you can pick out the celebs' favorite based on the scent developed for them, which often is influenced by something already on the market.

It is unlikely most bother to wear them and in the case Of the NY Yankees fragrance, the endorser-player showing up to represent it admitted he never tried it and spent most of his time signing autographs and answering questions from sports reporters, and not about the scent!

The negative responses here amaze me.
Basically, you are saying that celebrities don't have any vanity! Hilarious.

Or that they go away and wear expensive stuff - you know, the niche stuff that no one knows about, that most everyone posts here that they've never had a positive comment about, the "wear for one's self stuff" that no one else notices. Doubly hilarious.
    Cheers,

I can't see half these celebrities wearing their own fragrances. Nor do I see them purchasing niche. Heck, fragrances are probably the last thing on their minds.

It is a business deal with celebrities and they most likely won't wear or would wear it much less than fashion designers their own clothes.

Well in most cases a famous person would be be embarrassed to wear the crap put out under most celebrity brands. That said, the I agree Michael Jordan would be well served wearing Legend although he can probably just afford New Haarlem as Legend is just a straight copy.
