I recently went through an Hermes phase and ordered a bunch of samples from TPC. I think my favorite of the bunch was Ambre Narguile, which smells like cinnamon pipe tobacco (at least on my skin). It also, to me, smelled like Musc Ravageur's drydown, only slightly less musky and slightly more sweet.
First, before taking the plunge, are there any other Amber scents I should try? I'm new to Amber and this is the first alleged amber scent I've experienced, though some seem to say there isn't much amber in it.
Second, does anyone have any recommendations about where to buy? There aren't any full size bottles on Ebay (yes, I do Ebay), and the Hermes website lists it at $235.00 for 100 ml, which is outrageously expensive for me. I then Amazoned it, and found one seller asking over $450.00 for the same size!
Maybe this is one I just have to yearn for.
Current Top Five:
1. Creed Green Irish Tweed
2. Tom Ford Neroli Portofino
3. Hermes Concentre d'Orange Verte
4. Bond No. 9 New Haarlem
5. Creed Original Vetiver
Ambre Narguile is a very nice scent. Another amber I would consider your trying would be Ambre Precieux by MPG. As for purchasing the former, got my 100ml at the Hermes boutique. Personally not aware of other options.
Amber Narguile is conceivably my favorite amber and my favorite frag from Hermes, but it's a pricey devil. The line is exclusive to Hermes boutiques so I wouldn't hold my breath lookin' for a deal on the 100ml. Hermes does a travel pack, I think it's 4x15ml bottles and you can mix and match from the Hermessence line. I've seen people splitting up the 4 packs and selling singles on ebay. Maybe that is something to consider.
Like hednic said, the MPG Ambre Precieux seems to be quite popular here.
