Thread: Joop!

    Default Joop!

Just thought I would give this a try, (gets talked about a lot) so why not give it a go, happened to be on offer in boots for under £20 for 75ml edt, so not too expensive, anyway, this has got to be the foulest smelling frag on the planet, it is awful, I am quite open minded to different frags, but this stuff is terrible, anyone else feel the same?

Yes, that stuff is pretty bad. I'd rather pour cough syrup over my body.

It's not popular because it's good. It's just popular because its cheap and sold at stores like Sears and Walmart.

Only thing I will say, the longevity is amazing, dont know what they put in it to make it last so long, but I wish all the major players in the fragrance business would take note!!!

It obviously does not cost much, to make a fragrance last, so why dont they do it?

I am no quite sure which Joop! you are referring to; but, I find Joop! Homme to be a powerhouse, and enjoyable from time to time.

I'm neutral on this, neither love or hate. Love because it has greatest sillage and longevity ever and a badboy's scent. Hate because it makes my nose and throat physically ill.
Joop! makes me thinking of a hospital on a cold sunny winter day, ugh disgusting.

This is the frag that started my obsession definitely not for everyone, but it is one that may need to be worn a few times to get a good feel of it. I don't know if you are having a heatwave where you are, but I would not recommend wearing this on a hot day. Maybe put the bottle away for a nice Fall/Winter day and then see if your opinion changes

Joop! Homme is one of my most disliked fragrances to date, and I disliked it from the get-go when it was first released.
    Current Top Favorites:
    1) Portrait of a Lady (EdP Frédéric Malle)
    2) Giorgio for Men vintage (Giorgio Beverly Hills)
    3) Dia Man vintage edt (Amouage)
    4) Les Nombres d'Or Vetyver (Mona di Orio) - tie
    4) Lalfeorosa (O'driù) - tie

    6) Anat Fritz Original Formula and Classical (Anat Fritz)
    7) Captain vintage (Molyneux)
    8) Tzora (Anat Fritz)

Unfortunately I did put the bottle away, in the garbage, so I will never get the chance to try it in the winter, never mind.

Never tried Pour Homme, would like to though as it seems to be loved by some and hated by others.

Only Joop! I've tried was Nightflight. Can't say I cared for that one.

    What's not to like?
A nice sweet smelling fresh oriental that led the way for all of the sweet orientals that came afterwards - there was a time when orientals mainly smelled like Ralph Lauren Chaps, Equipage and Lagerfeld Classic.

I think we have a lot of dichotomous noses around here.

Agreed the scent has been debated here forever so that says some about this scent that is over 24 years old and still sparking discussion.

I have not had the pleasure of smelling Joop! Homme. Is it true that it smells like Creed Original Santel?

I would say it is a strange one: the opening notes are annoying, the mid and basenotes are enjoyable to a limited extent. However, it does get lots of compliments. Now, how can that be? I guess others smell something different to what I do, that is the only logical thing to think.

BTW, Creed's Santal is almost identical. There is a sound difference in its complexity.

If it smells anything like Creed's Santal I will have to give it a try.

LOL, I still wear this out to clubs once in a blue moon. When I was a kid, I would sneak into my brother's room and spray his Joop! cologne on my arm. It's definitely not for everybody and 1 or 2 sprays is all you need.

And yes Original Santal smells nearly identical to Joop!

I actually quite like it! When it's oversprayed it is hideous though. A young actor in one of my productions was wearing this and it took me a while to realise what it was that he had on; smelt very nice on him.

Joop Homme was one of the revolutionary fragrances in the late 80's.

Personally I find it too intense but I do like the shower gel here and then.

A definite case of "love or hate"-scent. High quality and well-blended notes, however the strength might be off-putting at first (as it was, until recently, also for me), so it is a clear "try before you buy"-scent.

It's the other way around - Original Santal smells like Joop Homme, though a bit softer, not as hard hitting, and definitely nowhere near as long lasting as Joop. Joop seems a bit rough or harsh in a direct comparison, between the two, though it doesn't seem rough on its own.

    I love Joop.

It's one of the best cheap, bargain finds these days. Since its reformulation it does not have that epic longevity of days gone buy. I find it very wearable now even on hot summer days.

It's a pleasant, cherry and vanilla smell. Smells like clean, laundry to me. It's a great classic that I will always have in my collection

The pink stuff? I think i could use it if put only a very small dose somewhere chest/belly area... it's way too sweet to my taste anyway, i find it feminine. I know some worse fragrances though...

One of the few fragrances I remember having made an impression on me when I was a kid. Not my thing, but certainly one of a kind.

It's the Robitussin extrait. Very rare in todays parfumery.
