    Default Incense please....

What are some fragrances that smell like wonderful cathedral incense that I could buy right from the department store or Perfumania store? All the ones I've read about can only be found online, I want one that I can go right out and buy..... Appreciate your thoughts!!

It depends on what stores you have nearby. I'd recommend:
    L'air du Desert Marocain
    Loewe 7
Gucci PH I (if you can find it)
    Comme des Garcons 2 Man
Avignon (or any of the CdG Incense Series - very reasonably priced too)

    Try:

    Oliban by Keiko Mecheri
    - Initially, one is treated to a magnificent shower of mystical frankincense. The lovely, sweetish, citrusy character commingles with the cedar chest aroma of atlas cedarwood, with its aromatic fruitiness and ever so slightly camphoraceous, some might say urinous, whisper. This vivacious brew meanders to the waiting heart. Here, a deliciously seductive, red rose with fruity glimmers and a cabernet-like facet sparkles somewhat. A delightful honey marries with the enchanting rose and imparts its enticing sweetness. An exotic undertone is furnished by a much subdued olibanum. Transitioning to the awaiting base, a select blond tabacco imparts its floral, vanillic, and smoky facets. A magical amber supplies hints of vanillic cherry, almonds as well as leather. Shadows of tangy frankincense flitter about. A charming drydown ensues. This well-blended, elegant composition leans substantially to the masculine side, and has radiating projection for maybe two hours, then settling to a skin scent, as well as average longevity.

    &

Olibanum by Profumum - Upon application, one is treated to a medicinally resinous myrrh, at once cooling and green, but sharply sour, with a slightly moist, mushroom-like mustiness. And, a somewhat dark, orange blossom infuses its sweet fruity, earthy and indolic aspects. This dank, green melange meanders to the middle, where a pure olibanum, reminiscent of an infusing frankincense during the celebration of a High Mass, envelops the bitter greenness with its alluring splendor. A faint, rustic tabacco undercurrent, like a freshly-opened pack of cigarettes, drifts in and out. Transitioning to the comforting base, a smooth and creamy sandalwood lifts the frankincense, while a slightly terpene, conifer nuance presents. A sublime drydown ensues. An exalted scent to be sure, this masculine composition is an all-season fragrance, with average projection and good longevity.

    &

    Rock Crystal by Olivier Durbano
    - One is treated initially to the lovely, citric sweetness of orange blossom floating on a cloud of spices, forged from lively and somewhat woody pepper, earthy and nutty coriander, sweet cardamom as well as cumin with its anise and hidrotic facets. Segueing to the alluring middle, a rapturous, somewhat muted frankincense, reminiscent of a emptied church following the celebration of a High Mass, and the vanillic smokiness of benzoin create an ethereal accord. Cistus with its leathery and menthol aspects as well as the mustiness of myrrh temper the mystical blend. Transitioning to the robust base, the green earthiness of vetiver, slightly bitter immortelle, dry cedar, boggy patchouli, warm musk, milky sandalwood and foresty oakmoss, all combine to conjure a cavernous illusion. A comforting drydown ensues. This sublime, masculine composition has average projection and longevity.

Bond No. 9 Andy Warhol Silver Factory. You can find that at Saks.
I really can't think of any incense you can find at a department store. All the ones I can think of are niche. Oh, Passage d'Infer by L'Artisan. You can probably find that at Saks, Neiman Marcus or Barney's.

You know that fragrance that you will smell in a church when the priest comes along with the incense fumed pot:
that's my preferred perfume. Go for 57. I 'clove' incense at Le Parfumeur à l'Ancienne. It is like Loewe 7, but Loewe has more cloves, I 'clove' incense is more pure i.m.h.o.

    Kind regards.
    My preferred perfumes:
    57. I 'clove' Incense by Le Parfumeur à l'Ancienne
    Petite Chérie by Annick Goutal
    16. Eclipse des Senses by Le Parfumeur à l'Ancienne
    Boss Bottled by Hugo Boss
