Default SOTD Wednesday 18th July 2012

Good morning sleepyheads! Is no one up yet, or all you all too busy this morning? I have been at work all night, so tea and bed for me after my post.

So, another Bex London from a sample; W1X, (The West End). They say "neo-vintage". I totally agree. Opens dry as a bone Iris with some wood already there, cedar. Then rose and other florals, it softens considerably and becomes slightly aromatic. Lovely. A little woody vanilla drydown. I could see this doing really well.

Good morning Foustie and all of you too!

Wearing Impossible Iris by Ramon Monegal this morning. I'm trying to decide wether I like it or not. Hope that wearing it today will help to clear my mind and make a good decision.

It's another cloudy and colder day here. I wonder if it will rain soon... Been swimming in the morning, will be staying at home if it won't get warmer. It's a little bit too cold for a bike ride.

It's always such fun to come downstairs and see what our friends across the pond are up to first thing in the day! Iris abounds. Roberto that graphic is TOO funny. Almost went back to bed thinking on Danny's bike trip to work.

    Think I'll treat myself to

    Saso
(Top notes: aldehydes, bergamot, lemon, green notes, fruity notes and hyacinth. Heart: jasmine, lily of the valley, orris root, rose, violet and ylang-ylang. Base: sandalwood, vetiver, benzoin, civet, amber, musk, tonka and vanilla...this does not do it justice)
    today.

Two days in a row, now, I find myself succumbing to the utterly stifling heat and seeking out a bit of coolness via Uncle Serge's twin camphor flowers -- yesterday with Sarrasins and today with Tubereuse Criminelle. I'm not sure it's working, though.

This is really horrible. No rain since early June, most of July in the 100s, and no break in the temps or sun in sight. How much longer can this go on? (she, asks, rhetorically)

I'm in Vol de Nuit this morning, vintage EDT. Lovely but doesn't steal my heart like Shalimar or Sous le Vent. But it is a classic Guerlain after all, certainly no complaints here! I think they're all gorgeous. I only wish they made 'em like they used to!

    Have a great day, gang!

whereas uk has recorded the wettest & coldest last 4 months since records began more than 100yrs ago!! i'd gladly swap our rain with your heatwave. apparently from next week we are going to have our own 'heatwave' and 'endure' temperatures of up to 27C!! (that's 80.6F).. wow, i'm almost scared. joke aside, i feel for you, too much of either one cannot be good. you should see the rotten roses, don't even have time to bloom. and 3 months ago i had a beautiful, amazing looking window box of campanullas (dalmatian), they are now completely rotten to the core and sad looking, just the leaves left.

(not mine but this is how they used to look 3 months ago).

I am smelling like sample C from the Mystery Florals Blind sniff, and now the sniff is officially over for me because I guessed it! I cannot share yet. But the other two samples were A - Naj Oleari Naj Oleari and B - Knize Two. I was EXTREMELY surprised that it was a masculine fragrance when I sniffed it blind. Who loves and wears this one? Shout out! PerfumedLady, I think I should share what I have left from it with you -- you're such an iris lover.

Someone the other day mentioned Vetiver Tonka by Hermes, so before spraying C I got a little bit of VT on my wrist -- it was as bad as a craving! I can still smell it, although C is very strong on the other arm.

It is one of my loves. You smell wonderful! I enjoyed reading about your fragrance journey on NST.

    Have a great day, gang!
Vintage Vol de Nuit? How cool! You know contemporary Vol de Nuit stole my heart. And so did contemporary Sous le Vent. So maybe I shouldn't even try them in vintage!

    Great pictures today, lovely!

Danny, it looks like extreme weather of one kind or another is what we have to look forward to. I would kill for some cool/cold, wet weather. Everything that used to be green is turning brown/burning up and dying. Massive, massive crop losses. Climatologists are saying that even if we got an inch of rain each day until the August, it might bring the drought to an end, but it wouldn't save the crops. So sad.

Kumquat, in all fairness, it's probably not because you haven't noticed. I've been away for quite a while and only just recently started posting again. And my location used to read, generically, "Midwest." I'm actually in Omaha. We should meet up sometime!

Hey all. I am wearing a sample of Creed Royal Oud. It's really got a beautiful drydown but it's so weak unfortunately.

SOTD, rather than beat the heat I joined it with vintage Maderas de Oriente (locion formulation) by Myrurgia. It starts a fetid, nearly dirty sandalwood, if you can imagine, then dries down to the powdery sweetness we conventionally associate with the rare wood.

SOTA, I continue my survey of Weil in preparation for a pass around, today being devoted to the recent Aroli iterations. Certainly not the great animalic base of old, these are quality scents, if conventional. Exception: secret de Weil is a mentholated rose, interesting and tenacious.

SOTE, I'll cool off with 4711, then pick out something before bed, maybe return to sultry with Shalimar.
