Default Woody: Chene by Serge Lutens vs Wonderwood by Comme des Garcons

I am planning to get one of these. Any suggestion please ?

Pretty different fragrances. The CDG has an overall sandalwood vibe and smells kinda "cleaner" while Chene is sort of sweet-dry with cedarwood galore. I'd personally choose Chene.

I'd go for Chene. I've only tested Wonderwood a couple of times but I don't get the appeal. It's perfectly pleasant but nothing unique, and less interesting than the woody fragrances in the CdG Incense and Red series. Chene I didn't like at first, finding it too sweet, but it has really grown on me now.

    Own and enjoy both.

Chene is a sober boozy Lanka based perfume. Whereas WW is a woody , synthetic and ISO E Super based perfume.

I'd go with Chene, it's a slightly boozy rum with sweeter oak and far more interesting.

Chene is quite sweet, and I like it more than Wonderwood, but have to admit Wonderwood is more versatile and "user friendly" in its all-round pleasantness.

    Chene ofc!
I love walking around like a drunk oak.

Wonderwood bored me after 2 wearings.

    Love both!

Own Wonderwood, but would thoroughly love to own Chene.

Versatility goes to Wonderwood, and by a hair too (as of right now), so my overall vote goes to Wonderwood as well.

Definitely Chene, which is more oak-prominent. Lovely stuff.

I didn't like Chene at first, but as someone else said, I grew to love it. It's in my top 3 now. I've never tried Wonderwood but I will, one of these days.

    Why not just sample both?

I don't have a lot of experience with Chene, but when I had them side by side I chose Wonderwood. It's a great frag!

Chene has more going on. Check out Cformosa's review on youtube. If you want wood soaked wood while cutting wood? LMAO!

On me at least, Wonderwood smelt almost exactly like Diptyque Tam Dao, which in turn smells exactly like the mustard yellow incense used at Buddhist temples (before it is lit). It's this association which makes WW and TD unwearable for me.

Chene has been on my to-buy list for some time.

I find Wonderwood to be a well done but boring synth-woody fragrance. Chene I dislike for the scatchy/rough element. To be fair, I do need to test it more but there is also a clearly synthetic element to the composition that provides an annoying "fiz". Ultimately I don't like fragrances where the synthetics used make the same smell waft in and out all day. I find this boring and prefer proper development and subtle variation.

In short, I wouldn't buy either of them. Both boring to my nose. They're just not my kind of fragrances.

That said, objectively they are both good fragrances and you should get either or both if you enjoy them.

Haven't tried Wonderwood, but Chene is very nice! Sweet though too, excellent oak and cedar notes, with a maple/coffee smell. As much as I loved it, I think I prefer Santal de Mysore to it, it has one of best sandalwood notes I have ever sniffed.
