Talking I've finally bought a niche fragrance

... and after trying out some ELDO's and Luten's, I've decided to buy Chergui.

I needed a safe scent to begin my journey of discovery, and SL Chergui was more appealing then Ambre Sultan (but I'll give the latter a second chance some other time).
I also recieved 8 samples: MFK Oud and Cologne Pour le Matin (EDC version), Bois 1920 Vetiver Ambrato & Sandalo e the, Santal by Floris, Francois Charles by Rance (never heard of it), Yuzu man by Caron and Musk by LT Piver (unfortunately it's a white musk.. so I expect nothing interesting). Glad I have the chance to smell some "oud" (I may be wrong, but I think MFK Oud was created just as an attempt to jump in the crazy bandwagon and it has synthetic oud).
About Chergui, I only gave it 1 full wearing from my bottle and I love it. I have to say... the juice is as good as its hype. I like the simple presentation, and the small but elegant bottle. This composition is sweet in a very good way and surprisingly unisex. That pipe tobacoo + honey + hay combo is, to my nose, a heavenly smell. You can tell this is niche quality. Projection and longevity are both very good.
I would like to see some Serge Lutens suggetions, but only non-exclusive ones.

Thats a great perfume to start out with. Very complex. Enjoy it!

I wouldn't know where to begin suggesting SLs.

Other than Vetiver and geranium I think hes made a perfume for every genre.

Luckily for you Tubereuse Criminelle is temporarily part of the export line.

Thanks, hedonist. The designer fragrances world doesn't seem as good as I've seen it before. So many booring sport fragrances and that forced (pushed) selling of perfumes keep me away from buying them at retail price, at least.
P.S. I also liked Cedre, but only on a tester card. I'm curious.. does it last, is it strong ?

Great choice! Of the many SL scents I enjoy, this one is a compliment getter!

You might want to try Un Bois Vanille.

Yes Cedre lasts and is strong. I haven't happened upon a weak and quiet SL.

Thanks for the replies ! Cedre and Un bois vanille are now high on my test list. Even after some reviews they seem to be good stuff. My Chergui certainly has that compliment getter feel to it.
I'm glad Serge Lutens makes strong fragrances. Same with Etat Libre d'Orange. I'm aware that some niche brands like Creed, L' Artisan make many of their releases subtle, despite being EDP concentration.

It's been my experience that Lutens makes fragrances that are strong, and which are unique enough to be satisfying for the price. Chergui seems to be the real crowd pleaser of the line, so you've made a good start I think.

If you get the chance to sample Fumere Tourque, I'd certainly give that one a sniff as well. Perhaps not as versatile as Chergui, but certainly in line with what one might expect from a niche perfume. I can recommend Fille en Aiguilles as well. It's unique and rich, but easy for everyone to like, and a real must-smell of the SL line.

Congrats for entering the world of niche!

I have not tried many from Serge Lutens, but from what I know Fourreau Noir definitely worths a shot!

I was already obsessed before I bought my Chergui.
So many Fille en aiguilles suggestions that I'll remember it.
