    Default Fahrenheit smells feminine

I know I'm in the minority here, but to me Fahrenheit has this "watermelon" vibe to it. Had that vibe when i tested it, and weeks later my friend bought it and I smell the same thing. It's not super girly, but DEFINITELY not the manliest, gasoline scent. (I wish it smelled like gasoline). All I smell is this watermelon note with a dark twist to it. Am I missing something here? A girl could EASILY wear this IMO.

WTF? Maybe you both tested Aqua Fahrenheit not original Fahrenheit. There is nothing slightly feminine in Fahrenheit.

I can surely imagine ladies pulling off wearing some scents marketed for men. However, Fahrenheit? No way! It's just manliness in a bottle, wondefull stuff. I also do not get the gasoline / petroleum notes from this, more a spicy (almost like black pepper) opening after which the flowers kick in. When the spices fade away, it keeps its dark leather note which I cannot imagine any woman pulling off. Maybe you tried one of the other Fahrenheit alternatives like 32 or Aqua.
    My current top 3:
    1. Fahrenheit - Christian Dior
    2. ROMA Uomo - Laura Biagiotti
    3. Polo Blue - Ralph Lauren

Are you suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure you weren't smelling Fahrenheit 32? I like Fahrenheit 32, but it's too feminine for me. I'd love to see what it smells like on a woman though! ...but Fahrenheit? Definitely not feminine. Not unless you're smelling a fake.

Wasn't a fake because I tested it at Macy's and my friend bought it from somewhere weeks later... No chance both happened to be fakes.

    ^^^This

Are you sure we're talking about Fahrenheit by Christian Dior here? And if it was....are you sure you have the right juice, and that someone didn't play a goof on you by putting something else in a Fahrenheit bottle? Because there is absolutely NO watermelon in there!

Feminine? Uhhh.....maybe....if you know many females that work in an auto shop changing transmissions out, rebuilding engines, doing basic oil changes, tune ups, brake repairs and tire rotations, etc. Don't let those violet flowers just outside the building fool ya.....

I completely get what the OP is talking about -- especially if you only smell the top accord (first 10 minutes). What pops out for me in those first minutes are the "ozone" which definitely has a melony vibe, and the "hawthorn" which is quite sweet and floral. Until the rich dark base kicks in after a few minutes, I find Fahrenheit unisex for sure. In fact, I wrote it off at first because its opening was not bold and manly enough.

A girl can wear almost any masculine fragrance and often smell amazing.

It's the Lily of the Valley (and maybe chamomile (apple) and who knows what else) you're smelling in Fahrenheit. Some people are sensitive to it. The cucumber-metallic-oily effect of violet leaves could also be part of it. Almost any decent masculine fragrance has a good amount of florals in it. Note pyramids won't show you all of it. Not even close. The average fragrance contains over 200 ingredients. I know what you're talking about. Fahrenheit has plenty of florals but it doesn't necessarily smell feminine.

I work with a lady who wears Fahrenheit, or something that smells like it. And she isn't "butch" or even a lesbian, as if that makes any difference.

Respectfully......I'm surprised at the comments. Not trying to fan the flames....so to speak.....: ) But if anyone suggests on this board that men can't wear women's scents because they smell too feminine, well, there is usually quite a vocal response to the contrary. We see that discussion over and over. I would think the flip-side is okay, too......why can't women wear whatever they want, regardless of what gender it was 'intended' for?

    *shrugs*

Again, I'm not trying to stir up sh*t here, but I kind of felt like I stepped into the Twilight Zone.

Oh and I don't smell watermelon in Fahrenheit, but I've been known to make some odd associations with fragrances, so I think it's totally possible that you're perception is telling you "watermelon!".

I do get this melon note you speak of in the opening, but it doesn't last more than a minute or so.. from there on out, it's pretty masculine. Granted, there are floral notes; like violet and honeysuckle, but it gets covered pretty well in the gasoline/kerosene like accord. I do know women who wear this fragrance, but I wouldn't call it feminine.

Sure. It's unisex, like all perfumes. Scents don't have a gender, all in the nose of the beholder. I don't find it all that extremely masculine either.

Not to my nose, IMO, the leathery drydown comes off rather butch and manly to my nose, on the other hand, even so it might make a great unisex scent.

its funny that the OP said the watermelon note, because to me the top smells like when i walk into my nearest safeways fruit and veggie section. feminine? not to me, but thats what the current version smells like at the top to my nose. the other formulations have it but not nearly as prominent and much "darker" than the current.

I don't think you're trolling either. Most of us don't get melon from Fahrenheit, but I have seen people mention that before. LOL!

I get a real dark heavy smell from Montale Black Aoud... maybe something like Bvlgari Black. Not so much gasoline but a deep dark tar type smell, which might fit your need. Otherwise, I don't know of anything that smells like gasoline (except for gasoline of course, but I wouldn't recommend you wear that - especially if you are a smoker).

Or, while I have not tried it, you may want to try Comme de Garcons Garage? Not sure if that has a gasoline scent or not...

Soooo......when these companies put "Pour Homme"....or "Pour Femme" on the bottle, their true intention is to mislead everyone and they're doing it just for a goof....right?

Come on, that's silly. Maybe there's some pride in everything being "unisex" and men wearing women's clothing and visa versa where you live or in the circles that you hang, but by and large the genders do typically recognize when something is more "appropriate" for them. So give men and women a little bit of credit here. I personally know several women who will flat out tell you that they don't like something on a man because it smells "too girly" (i.e. - too feminine). Likewise, I've heard women who occasionally wear men's fragrances say that they won't even think about wearing Fahrenheit because (to them) it is "too masculine"

I have been wanting to try Nostalgia by Santa Maria Novella, some apparently find that this smells like gasoline so this may be what you're looking for. http://www.basenotes.net/ID26122510.html

Regarding your original post, I do get the melon/watermelon note. I have trouble getting my head around this fragrance, it smells so unusual to me that I definitely wouldn't say that it is hyper-masculine or even obviously masculine.

I wonder if some of the replies here are from folks with an early version (prior to reformulation), from what I have read the most recent formulation is much less "gasoline"-y.

If Fahrenheit is a bit feminine felling to the OP, Black Oud may not be the answer, considering the pretty straight forward Rose smell you get.

Do you really want to discuss this here, again? Just toe the party line, which is all perfumes are unisex/genderless and can be worn by anyone, it's all marketing! :-p jk

If the thread starter's mother only wore Bandit, for example, and say his dad wore..I don't know, rose scents, or the scents that were too soft for his wife, if he never dated women much, or these women all wore Aramis, etc, he may well perceive scents in a different way compared to other people.

A girl could EASILY wear this IMO.
I'm assuming this is a joke.

Well like I said, I'm going to be in the minority. I feel as if I'm not the most popular guy around here because of this post and I'll look over my shoulder for the next few days LOL. But I did leave a piece of information out. When my friend tried it with me at that Macy's he sprayed it on himself and the mist ended up on my arm and I quickly wiped it off because I didn't want to smell like a teenage girl. When I smelled my arm later something smelled a lot more masculine and it had a "burnt" smell to it. So my conclusion is that (to me) the top notes aren't macho but the base notes are. I can see why you guys find this masculine, but I'll never get over the watermelon + cucumber accord in this frag.

It's not my kind of thing to wear, but as I've said before, it's totally the smell of a hot mechanic chewing Big Red gum late in the workday - hardly what most people would consider a feminine smell!

If you quickly wiped it off, you didn't experience the top notes. It's A-OK to not like Fahrenheit. It's not for everyone. But you may be the first person since the day it was released 24 years ago to say Fahrenheit smells like a teenage girl. We all perceive things differently, but... Fahrenheit? Smells like a teenage girl? I realize that you just turned 19, but still... that's a new one.

Teenage girls in Serbia must be totally badass.

I quickly wiped it off once the top notes hit me, because it smelled like a peeled & cut up cucumber sitting in watermelon juice. Once I wiped it off (i scrubbed it off good) there was barely any left and I'm guessing it got to the base notes a lot quicker, and then when I smelled it later it was masculine. Not macho, just masculine. But when my friend wears it all I smell is that girly note even hours in, so it's not just the very top notes. It does smell different, I'll give it points for that.
And I don't know how teenage girls are in Serbia, been living in New Jersey since I was 8.

I'll definitely have to test it again because the responses I got here make me feel as if I'm losing my mind (or my nose).
