Not sure about compliments but Dior Homme is the better frag.
Between these two which is more of a compliment getter? Dior Homme (2012) or Givenchy Play Intense

Not sure about compliments but Dior Homme is the better frag.
I have gotten more compliments from Dior Homme. But that could be because I would never wear Play Intense.
Please feel free to check out my Swap Thread - Patou pour Homme, L'Instant de Guerlain PH Extreme, Dior Homme Intense, Pure Malt, Pure Coffee and many more! Click Here For My Swap Thread
Dior Homme... no competition.
Dior homme because you can wear it year round. Play intense I enjoy just as much, but for the cooler months and winter.
Dior Homme even with the 2012? ... I been hearing good stuff about it.
Dior Homme is 100x better
thats because the reformulated dhi sucks @adam
Both are good as compliment getters, wear whatever you like.
Don't even think twice about it, Dior Homme! Quality, scent, in every respect.
Come on my man, this one is a no brainer: Dior Homme and Dior Homme Intense.
Well this thread was a one-punch knockout for DHI...
Nothing can come out ahead after going head to head with DH or DHI.
joking aside, out of the two, I think DH is much better in every way
Francois Demachy did the reformulations of DH and DHI right? Not Olivier Polge? Or am I mistaken?
^ yes, but demachy did the vintage DHI as well. Polge only did vintage DH.
that being said, I prefer vintage DHI over reform DHI
Is the mercy rule in effect for this thread? haha
Dior Homme without a doubt.
Dior Homme hands down...
Play Intense is more of a compliment getter compared to Dior Homme.
I prefer Play Intense over Dior Homme. I must admit, Dior Homme is probably a better compliment getter.
Givenchy Play Intense by a country mile.
Dior homme smells like a cheap bug spray. Quite amusing that some people actually spray it on their skin.
I'd take Play Intense over Dior Homme.
Iris Pallida 50ml
Ungaro I 75ml
and more! - http://www.basenotes.net/threads/301...n-Man-and-more
Tropics, are you making a list of everyone here that prefers Dior Homme? It's going to be a long list...
Judging from the reactions on this thread....I probably shouldn't have any problem selling my 95% full bottle of Dior Homme....right?
Seriously...I'm beginning to think that Dior Homme is very over-rated. Because while I liked it initially enough to plunk down the $80 American to buy it, I've used it so infrequently because....well...I'm not really all that crazy about it.
Yes, I understand it is good quality. Yes, I understand that it has good projection and longevity. And yes I realize it's a bit of a compliment getter....I just don't really seem to care all that much for it.
I sampled Play Intense the other day and didn't think it was all that bad. Not something I would consider buying, because it seemed to have a similar vibe to it that A*Men has.....but still, of good enough quality that I'm surprised that so many people had jumped on the Dior Homme bandwagon to the point that some don't even seem to think that it's discussion worthy......
I have to go with Dior Homme also!!!
I'm going to go against the grain on this one. OP said Compliment getter, DH IMO wouldn't do as well as Play Intense.
I personally enjoy PI better too.
The hunt for a Signature Fragrance is not an easy one! I see the light at the end of the tunnel! Edit: 2015... I've given up and given in
Want to buy or swap: A*men Ultra Zest, Bentley Intense, Mont Blanc Legend Intense, Paco Rabanne Invictus,
I really really want to try Dior homme unreformalated version need to get a sample but for now Givenchy Play Intense.
1. Givenchy Play Intense by Givenchy
2. Invasion Barbare by MDCI
3. Green Irish Tweed by Creed
4. Rive Gauche Pour Homme by YSL
6. Jazz Prestige by YSL
Dior Homme. I didn't mind Play Intense but two sprays and I choked myself out...extremely cloying.
Dior Homme is very beautiful, really great smelling scent, that people like. It's a pleaser for sure. I prefer the Intense version myself, but Dior Homme is class.
My sales thread
Givenchy Play Intense gets a LOT of compliments - a softer, smoother gourmand with great longevity.
With all due respect to DH/DHI lovers (I guess there are many), I wouldn't leave the house wearing Dior Homme Intense, because IMO that is what women smell like. However, smelling like women's makeup just might get a lot of compliments, since market research must show women like that smell (or else they wouldn't make their makeup with those notes). I don't know anything about the "original" formulation for DH or DHI, so I am only talking about the current formulations.
1. Creed - Spice & Wood
2. Creed - Aventus
3. Tom Ford - Grey Vetiver
4. Xerjoff - Fars
5. Dior - Vetiver
6. Creed - Green Valley
7. Clive Christian - 1872 for Men
8. by Kilian - Straight to Heaven
9. The Different Company - De Bachmakov
10. Creed - Royal Scottish Lavender
^ that's perfectly understandable. Years ago, i bet men wearing cologne of any kind was considered feminine since perfume was only for females and consistently made fun of
Dior Homme is certainly some kind of masterpiece. And as far as the regular version, the reformulation hasn't hurt it. It's still great.
Dior Homme just isn't for me. Play Intense by default.
They are both good. Dior Homme by a nose. Play Intense is a more casual choice.
If you want to smell like a girl and lipstick then go for Dior Homme.
I swear to god, you people need to step away from basenotes and youtube for a bit...
Play Intense will get WAY more compliments. It's not even close. Dior Homme is a more refined fragrance, but iris isn't really something girls are going to pick out and say "who smells so good??"
Play Intense is a crude, sweet, accessible gourmand. AKA something people buy a ton of because it appeals to everyone and gets a lot of compliments.
I could be wrong, and OP could be asking which will get him more compliments on the internet... then you guys are right... it's Dior Homme
End of thread.
Lupin really nailed it, in my opinion.
I love basenotes and the online frag community in general, but within any community people lose touch with the world outside of that community. There's actually a guy on basenotes who lies about what scent he's wearing if asked because he thinks it'll stop Aventus from becoming popular. Holy cow. You have to keep in mind the differences between the online world and the real world.
Dior Homme is the better fragrance, technically speaking. I suspect it has higher quality ingredients than Play Intense and I have no doubt that among the fragrance community, it will be the clear winner. I don't even know if Play Intense is in the same league as Dior Homme. But does it matter? I tend to choose scents based on use just as I choose what clothes to wear. I don't wear the same clothes to a formal event that I'd wear when hanging out with friends. Or when I'm going on a date. Much like clothes, I pick a fragrance to fit whatever is on the agenda.
If you hang out offline with people who are on basenotes, you're going to want to go with Dior Homme. If you're going on a date with someone who isn't part of the online fragrance community, I'd choose Play Intense.

Dior Homme without question, Play and all its flankers are garbage, sorry they are.
I will have to go with DH as well! Awesome fragrance
Current Top 5:
1. Frederic Malle L'eau d'Hiver
2. Tom Ford Noir de Noir
3. Dior Homme / Dior Homme Intense
4. Thierry Mugler A*Men Pure Havane / Pure Malt
5. Creed Aventus / Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille
Play Intense by Givenchy - a delectable treat.
Not a fan of Play Intense. I bought a bottle b/c it's regarded as a great fragrance. It just smells like Iso E Super to me.
"I am a robot and I like cheese"
1. Axe Kilo
2. Lectric Shave
3. Vicks Vapor Rub
4. Febreze Pour Homme
5. Preferred Stock
Iso E Super in Play Intense? Interesting. I can't handle Terre D'Hermes, Azzaro Visit, Michael Kors or Encre Noir because of a smell that I assume is Iso E Super. But I have no problem with Play Intense. In fact, I happen to like it It's not one of my favorites, but I own it and like it. I don't smell Iso E Super in Play Intense at all. I could be wrong though.
