Question Mona di Orio Oud and Guerlain Jicky Parfum

I recently got a sample of Mona di Orio's Les Nombres d'Or - Oud. It's great, such a balance of ingredients. But, I can't believe the similarity to Jicky Parfum. To my nose I'd say it's a 90% copy of Jicky. I don't know how, exactly, since the notes seem to be different, but that's what I get. I applied Mona's Oud on one wrist and Jicky on the other, and the resemblance was absolutely there. Certain notes are either toned up or down, like the civet in Jicky is dirtier in the topnotes, and it also dries down slightly brighter. Does anyone else get this connection? I did notice one review mention it. Do you prefer one over the other, and why?

Both have a strong presence of vanilla in the base, but I don't really smell the link. I have only worn Mona's Oud once, but I find the two quite divergent.

    Personally don't get the connection.
As for which I prefer, that's easy: Jicky.

It's fascinating that others don't get the similarity. I am curious if my sense of smell is not yet refined enough, if I am anosmic/hypernosmic to certain ingredients, or if there's some other factors at play (skin chemistry?). I did a test with my wife, let her smell both wrists and see what she had to say. She said they smell very similar.

I don't get the similarity but this doesn't mean you're wrong. Sometimes it's just a matter of perception. The anosmya/hyperosmia could be another relevant fact.

No similarities to my nose. While it may be sacrilege to some, I prefer Les Nombres d'Or Oud by light years over Jicky. For me the civet at the open in Jicky is so overpowering I can't wear it.

Becoming one of my favorite scents since purchase. I find it does pretty well for an oud in the summer as well.

How interesting. The parfum is the one concentration of Jicky I haven't tried. Love Jicky, really liked MdO Oud when I tried it.

It is so funny to fimd this thread, as I thought this similarity must be my imagination, but at least one other person has noticed it. There is a surprising resemblance, to me as well, and I love them both very much!

Yes Fleurine, I still find the two to be very similar after several more wearings. Both are exceptional, but I think I prefer the heavy dose of civet in Jicky's opening. Oh_Hedgehog's review in the fragrance database also mentioned the similarity.
