Default I'm trying to buy something for my brother

Its hard to do because his tastes aren't exactly the same as mine, His current top colognes are chrome, bijan wicked(I got it for him cas its like chrome) and cool water. I can't get him anything he already has so I ask bn what are some like fragrances good for everyday, and different enough from his current rotation.

what price range are you looking at and how old is he?

he's in his 30s and preferably something under a hundred. He's a big hater on the old man smell, so I don't think rive gauche would be his cup of tea, and hes not a fan of anything fruity or feminine, I already listed his favorites, he lives in chicago so they go through all 4 seasons

Maybe Terre d'Hermes or Gucci Envy? They're versatile, not fruity or feminine, good for daily wear, and different enough from his current rotation. Or maybe Bleu de Chanel?

Here are a few suggestions, all are quite safe scents: Cartier Roadster Sport (definitely not original roadster), Bleu de Chanel, Chanel Platinum Egoiste and Hugo Boss Bottled. I wear all these fragrances during all four seasons here (I'm in Chicago too.) All are reasonably priced under $80 and would be quite fitting for someone in his age range.

Yeah, I was wondering about this before I made a suggestions. Typically when people complain of an "old man smell" they are referring to fragrances with some combination of lavender, vanilla, and/or powder (admittedly a broad brush). I generally think of something like Bois du Portugal, or perhaps an old timey barbershop-style scent.

Terre d'Hermes was a good suggestion, but he may think it's too sweet. There's always the parfum, which a lot of people like (not me), and is less sweet than the EDT.
    Current Top Five:

    1. Creed Green Irish Tweed
    2. Tom Ford Neroli Portofino
    3. Hermes Concentre d'Orange Verte
    4. Bond No. 9 New Haarlem
    5. Creed Original Vetiver

I think Platinum Egoiste would fall into the old man smell categorie, smells like shaving cream.

If he might be into trying gourmands then you can get him Givenchy Play Intense!

I would also recommend Versace Pour Homme... in my opinion one the easiest on your nose scents on the market!

I think the original Egoiste is an "old man" type fragrance, but I don't see Platinum Egoiste as one. To me, PE comes off similar to Cool Water as a fresh fougere, 90s type scent. Granted, it's not exactly modern anymore, but to me it doesn't smell dated like the 70s/80s powerhouses do.

I agree that for nonbasenoters PE can have old school vibe.

Not that it smells like the 70/80's powerhouses, just that it does have that barbershop feel though, and I feel that that is something that people associate with "old man". I adore the fragrance, but many people do think of it that way.

Chanel Platinum Egoiste is quite similar to Abercrombie Fierce. I don't get any sort of barbersho feel from this fragrance at all. It's really just an adult (20-30's age) version of AF.

If im getting platinum egoiste i might just have to do a split and keep some for my self,, and as for the oldman smell pretty much powerhouses and things before the 90s make him think old man
