It's pretty unique IMO. While I don't agree with any of them, there are some suggestions in this thread...

Hi.....A friend of mine needs a fragrance that smells similar to Armani Code....he tends to like that kind of scent and he's been using Armani Code since 2007 or so. He still loves it but just wants something from a different house but similar for a change. Does anyone have any idea of a similar smell that projects well with good silage and staying power? thanks

The closest I can think of is Polo Double Black (which I actually quite enjoy). They really don't share specific notes, but both are technically listed as Masculine Orientals and do have a similar "vibe" to some. I much pefer the polo, as the olive note in Code just doesn't agree with me. Anyway, worth a shot for him to test it out. In my experience, PDB has decent projection for the first few hours and good longevity as a closer-to-skin scent (with a great dry-down) from there on out.
I remember selling it off because it was really close to something else I owned...I forget what though. Maybe it was Burberry Brit?
Current Winter Favorites:
1. House of Matriarch - Blackbird
2. Brückner - Aoud 1
3. Creed - Royal Oud
4. Stéphane Humbert Lucas 777 - Generation Man
5. Armani Privé - Oud Royal
6. by Kilian - Straight to Heaven
7. Stéphane Humbert Lucas 777 - Mortal Skin
8. Ormonde Jayne - Black Gold
9. Creed - Royal English Leather
10. by Kilian - Cruel Intentions
ZegnaIntenso by Ermenegildo Zegna.
+1 Burberry Brit
Van Cleef & Arpels Midnight in Paris to a small extent gives off a similar vibe to Armani Code (maybe it's the sweetened leather). I also think it's much better than Code.
Armani code Ultimate is similar but goes deeper & darker than the original code thicker and heavier version very well done
Armani Code has a cloyingly sweet accord that I find intolerable. To my nose, Chanel Allure PH has exactly the same accord. But I strongly dislike both fragrances so take my observation with that in mind.
I've often seen Code compared to Burberry Brit, but I kind of like Brit, and it doesn't have the accord I find objectionable in Code, so I don't consider them similar.
Just because it happened to you doesn't make it interesting.
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

Salvador Dali Black Sun.
The dry down of Brit smells similar to Code, the top notes to me are straight up baby powder.
But I agree with the post above about Polo Double Black. It's better in every way on me as a scent and far more versatile. That iced mango note blends perfectly with the ice coffee note.
A while back, I smelled BOD Man Black and surprisingly it smells like Armani Code. It's just lighter and doesn't last nearly as long... did I just admit I was 'sampling' BOD Man scents ?!

Seduction in Black. Not even joking.
wow...thanks guys!!! so may options...gotta let him sample all of that.
Personally, I feel that there are many scents that have a strong Armani Code vibe. Like Aqua Di Gio, Code seems to have been copied by many other houses. Not sure how intentional it was, but I do agree with Zegna Intensa as a decent starting point. You'll be able to tell the difference side by side, but passerbys will likely confuse the two. A lesser known one is Basi Homme, in the black bottle. This one is quite similar, but has a tea note that makes it a bit unique from Code, but still rather similar otherwise.
Salvador Dali Black Sun....
Black Sun is an excellent inexpensive substitute for Code, not as good though, but as close as you'll get. Escada Magnetism is similar, but with more projection, and more spice. Banderas Seduction in Black is similar as well.

+3 for Midnight in Paris
The closest to Armani I've come across is ODIN Sunda. A bit deeper and more interesting, but basically very-very similar to Code.
Damn , I forgot this!!
this is almost identical
and is really much cheaper.
