    Default unfair to cool water

this fragrance is getting a lot of hate on here. the opening is unimpressive i agree, but wait a half hour and it gets a lot better. i bet most people judge it by the opening rather than waiting for the heart ntoes to come in

It smells good, even at the beginning. It was once very, very popular, and many tried to emulate it. Because its past popularity, it's quite easy to recognize, and a few don't like that. There's also that Creed vs Cool Water thing that I don't even want to go into. If it smells good to you, and you feel great wearing it, please feel free to smell that good to yourself and your world.

I don't use it often, because I have so many others I like, but when I wear it, I always love it, synthetics and all.

I wanted to not like it so I could feel fragrance snob-ish, but I actually really enjoy the sample I have. I actually wore it today. It was 56 degrees when I drove to work, but was 87 when I left. I knew it was going to be a warmer day by the end, so I put it on----didn't get much from it when the temps were still down, but by lunch (when it had warmed up), Cool Water was kicking in and was very pleasant the rest of the afternoon on me.

For me opening of Cool Water is great (and very hard to distinguish from GIT) but it gets just worse over time and here it is where real difference can be seen.

Clashing notes at first and beyond that Molto Smalto is better, so I see no reason to wear it when I'm in the mood for this kind of fragrance.

No hate at all here... I used to wear the vintage stuff when it was first released and found it an amazingly good scent. In my case, I loved the opening of the scent of the vintage juice.

It is not the same scent it was back then, but the current release still smells good, IMO.

I consider Cool Water one of the best fragrances the industry ever created. CW simply created a new trend that is still ruling the market. Just like Apple changed the PC market for ever Cool Water did the same to the fragrance world. It does not get more versatile, fresh and masculine than Cool water, I find hard to believe here is anyone out there disliking it. Period.

The vintage stuff I remember smelling a lot stronger to the point where it made me sneeze a lot. The newer stuff seems lighter and doesn't make me sneeze. I think both are great fragrances especially for the price. A true classic.

I wore Vintage exclusively from 1993-1997. 4 straight years of people telling me I smelled great and girls burying their head into my neck when we hugged. I loved it. The issue I have with wearing it now, even a weaker reformulation, is that it smells good but bringing it to the office, etc just doesn't seem to match what I have going on here and I don't wear much on weekends.

Its the equivalent of wearing clothes from Marks and Spencers -- well made but every third person is wearing similar.

The more fragrances you experience the more Cool Water loses its appeal imo.

It has passed the test of time and proven itself to be worthy. The same cannot be said for many other fragrances that have been regarded as 'great ones.'

I still enjoy Cool Water on a hot day occasionally, but I do tend to have some longevity and projection issues with it. To get more out of it, I have to spray more, but the more I spray, unfortunately the more synthetic it begins to smell and feel on me. Also, once I became "spoiled" with GIT, it made Cool Water seem of even lesser quailty and more sythetic and I began using it less and less. Still, though, I by no means thinks it's a "bad" fragrance. It smells nice, clean, masculine, is inoffensive, and on hotter days, it still works better than many other similar frags. It is and always will be a popular, classic, and very versatile frag.

For me, even a longer development of its middle and base notes yields very little to my nose, so my decision not to like it is purely based on a personal impression about its genericness and one-dimensionality, rather than a commonly known (mis-) conception.

One big issue here: if you smelled and liked GIT first, then a while later smelled Cool Water, I think the reaction would be, "Oh, it's a cheap knockoff." If you smelled and liked Cool Water first, then a while later smelled GIT, the reaction would be, "Oh, it smells just like CW, but how much is it?"

I like Cool Water as well. Although, I think the vintage version is better, and I also think the flanker, Cool Water Summer Fizz is the best variation on Cool Water. But overall, a revolutionary fragrance that changed the industry and still remains very relevant and contemporary 24 years later.

Must be new formula then as the vintage I own goes on for 8+ hrs for sure! though I also tried new formula and besides the smell being worse the longevity was still pretty ok!

I agree with the longevity comments about Cool Water. I'm a bit too young to have experienced the vintage formulation, but I think I'll be giving my bottle away. I was proud to make it my poorman's GIT, but I just can't do it. Whenever I wear it, it feels like it's only half there....something is missing.

This is where I am with CW. I have a vintage bottle, circa '95-'96. I will wear it once in a while, but I feel I have moved past it to some more interesting fragrances.

It's funny how much hate Cool Water gets when it smells 80% like GIT, which is one of the most popular fragrances on basenotes. GIT is certainly a higher quality fragrance. There is no denying the difference, but CW still does a damn good job of being a cheap synthetic knock off. I think it's a classic.

again, defending something that needs no defending, Cool Water does care what you say about it and neither do the people who wear it, nor do they know people are talking bad about it.

Hehe. I think you meant to say Davidoff "doesn't care what you say about it." When I read this my first thought was a little bottle of Cool Water, crying in the corner, saying "I know I'm not GIT! Love me for who I am!"
