Default L'eau d'Issey pour Homme vs Bleu de Chanel

As I gain experience, I'm just throwing certain things at you guys to see how my nose is maturing.

I like Bleu de Chanel. My wife likes it more than I do. The other day, I got a sample of L'eau d'Issey pour Homme. We both liked it as well. Here's where I need your thoughts: Is it just me, or are these two very similar after a few hours? Initially, they're very different, but as they dry down, I notice a LOT of similarities. Currently, I'm wearing one on each wrist. It's been about three hours, and the similarities have begun. Chanel is definitely sweeter...d'Issey is softer...but other than that, they seem a lot alike to me. Am I nuts?

My wife said the same thing. Must just be me. I also get the faintest smell of honey when I first apply L'eau d'Issey, and it doesn't seem like anyone else gets that............so I must just be way off completely.

They both have a few similar woody notes in the dry down, but they still smell vastly different to my nose.

Bleu is my pick out of the two.

I wouldn't have made the comparison either, though I like Bleu a lot more.

Bleu de Channel seems like a very attractive buy when one goes to Macy's and such, but there is something about it that I really don't like, yet it sells so well.

Just on a side note, Bleu de Channel is a very marketable scent.
Favorite notes at this point: Sandal wood, Oud, Frankincense, Rose

One is horrible and the other is just "bad," IMO. My pick of the two goes to Bleu de Chanel. I find the two dissimilar for what its worth, however.
    Current Top Favorites:
    1) Portrait of a Lady (EdP Frédéric Malle)
    2) Giorgio for Men vintage (Giorgio Beverly Hills)
    3) Dia Man vintage edt (Amouage)
    4) Les Nombres d'Or Vetyver (Mona di Orio) - tie
    4) Lalfeorosa (O'driù) - tie

    6) Anat Fritz Original Formula and Classical (Anat Fritz)
    7) Captain vintage (Molyneux)
    8) Tzora (Anat Fritz)

    Bleu.
I can't stand L'eau D'Issey. Unless it is the 2009 summer edition. Regardless, Bleu still wins my vote.

Bleu wins over any L'Eau d'Issey version.

You might not be able to tell the difference since you are focusing on the dominant top note. You need to try to smell around it. Check the notes composition will help you discover the different notes and look for them per say. My recommendation is that if you smell something and like it, just get it.

Apart from some similar aquatic notes, personally not sensing much resemblance.

Nothing alike. Bleu of the two.

I don't smell them as similar. Really like both, but prefer Bleu a little more.

People hated Bleu here when it first came out. What happened? Did everyone come around or actually give an honest opinion of liking such a mainstream aquatic fragrance?

Its much the same as when it launched. People hated it because it so safe but it is a solid (if not boring) scent when basenoters were hoping for Egoiste 2.0. The hate perplexed me as well. The name alone gave away that this wasn't going to be some dark oud fragrance or something.
