Default Why do I hate the notes I used to love?

During my short time here at Basenotes I've learned so very much & opened up to a world of scents I would've never even tried in the past.

What puzzles me the most is why I absolutely hate some of the notes that were very prominent in my former "signature scents". (We're going back a few years here) I'm thinking tuberose and sharp green notes in particular. The perfumes I have in mind were not cheap by any means, but they gag me now.

I understand that tastes change, but a complete 180? Anyone have any thoughts?

Your nose may have grown tired of sniffing the same thing over and over. The same happens to me; I smell something, love it for some time, then begin to despise it. If I avoid it long enough, I begin to regain interest.

Now you are able to notice notes you didn't give too much attention in the past.

Boredom. It's okay, in my experience you will usually coma back around to them again. Sometimes your nose just needs a rest.

Perhaps, you have just outgrown those particular notes.

    Could it be hormonal?

I still hate Original Poison, though i keep trying, and seeing the list of notes, i almost bang my head on a desk wondering why i don't love it. But it stinks on me, like cat pee. I thought that getting a little education about it, might induce me to like it. But no.

Maybe you just got more olfactorily sophisticated. I don't really have this problem, i seem to have overly fond memories of ones i used to love, and can no longer get. Oh well. Variety is the spice of life.

It is possible that somehow, albeit unaware, you wore that fragrance during some not-so-good times. The negative memory of that scent may be imprinted in your mind and deter you from it.

I used to love Hane Mori last December, but I wore it when I had a bout of gastroenteritis and now I don't like it anymore.

It happens. Nothing strange about it IMO.
