Default Is there a Dry Oud without Rose Saffron and Vanilla?

    Dear Pundits,
Please be kind enough to share your thoughts - i find the use of rose, saffron and vanilla in most oud based fragrance and gets very cloying and gives me an headache or any floral with oud for that matter.

I am looking a "dry oud" if you must a little animalic, spicy and non-floral.

I am also expecting good longevity and silage, my budget tops would be around USD 250.00

Your thoughts and suggestions are much welcomed with gratitude.

I have access to Ajmal and Arabian Oud Stores, so you may include suggestions for these as well.

I've tested the Killian Series, and is underwhelmed by it.

    Thank You!

Oud Cuir d'Arabie, Leather Oud and Epic Man. I wouldn't bother with anything from Arabian Oud, Ajmal has some decent scents which fit your bill, you just need to sample a few.

+1 on Leather Oud...it just may fit the bill. .....it lasts forever and for my tastes is one of the more interesting scents to come along. It is expensive... not for everyone....try before you buy. dior.com/beauty/usa/en/fragrance/lacollection/collectionexclusive/y0907160/py0907160.html

Are you open to the idea of wearing pure oud oil? There are several varieties that are "dry" and "spicy", although finding a really high quality oil for $250 or less will be difficult.

Thank you duke! i do have EPIC MAN and i Love it! I'll take note of Oud Cuir D'arabie and Leather Oud Suggestions although i now must figure out how to access it, since Dior Boutique Malaysia has discontinued all fragrances, only the usual ones remain at cosmetic counters.

    Thanks again.

I did try many oud oils - all of which i tried are a big stink bomb for me; cambodian, laotian, indian - the stink factor seems to outweigh the animalic factor, but i will take your advice and give it another shot as well.

Montale Lime Aoud is quite rich in saffron, but dry as all Montale ouds. Also, I own an old Arabian Oud oil called Al Atherya with the required characteristics, but I think it's been discontinued.

Thanks, i will take note - i wasnt really impressed with new york oud, harsh and synthetic smelling.
Again, the Bond No.9 Store is pathetic in my country, they have no testers or stock for Harrods Oud.

Malaysia Boleh, Malaysia bagus! You're talking about the Dior boutique in Star Hill? Yup, pathetic. That store is huge and they can't even find the space for the fragrances. Just so your clear, Leather Oud smells more like the agarwood wood chips which get burnt, as opposed to the noble rot oil. I don't know if that appeals to you or not.

It may have a little saffron in it (?) but I'd also suggest Montale Dark Aoud. Mostly sandalwood and oud, and definitely dark and dry.

Go for it then, if you don't like it you'll easily be able to flip it on the swap board.

+1 for Montale's Dark Aoud. I have 15-20 oud based frags and this is definitely the driest to my nose. Absolutely no florals. So dry my wife says it's suffocating ..ha. Next would be Epic man but I think it has saffron in it. Oud Wood or Pure Oud would be next on the list for me.

These two would be my picks. Alternatively, you might want to consider Ramon Monegal's Agar Musk (available both at Luckyscent and Firstinfragrance). Another option is Dark Aoud in which the oud is paired to an extremely dry leathery-sandalwood base.
