Default Problems with the new "updated" post feature

A couple months ago, the forums began doing the following: when the last post on a thread was by me, then I post again (NOT editing the existing post), my new post gets appended to the previous post with "Updated" in light gray separating the two (or more) posts. I have two problems with this:

    1. Most importantly, the thread does not go to the top of the forum, so people have no idea I have added another post. This, even if weeks have passed since I last posted on the thread, and I am giving an important update.
    2. Separating consecutive posts can be a useful practice, especially if the posts are thematically unrelated. (This is less of a big deal and more a personal preference.)

    Example: http://www.basenotes.net/threads/289...sions%29/page7

I posted the reviews several weeks after the beginning of the post. Several participants of the thread have expressed an interest to know my detailed thoughts about these products. Because the thread does not get bumped up to the top of the forum and they get no email notification, they have no idea I have been offering these mini reviews up.

Proposed solution: Place a timeout on this functionality so it only fires when the time between the last post and the new is less than x. (30 minutes perhaps.)

    I've noticed that too.

Other forums have a 10 minute time span amd after that a new post is created as opposed to piggy backing on the previous one.

    for swap/sale:

Yes, I've found it bothersome as well.

It affects the posting ratings too.

    - - - Updated - - -

    Checked that and yes.

    l've worked out how to get around this;

When adding your new post, click "Reply" in the grey box at the bottom of your previous post, then write in the box that comes up, instead of writing it into the "Reply to Thread" box at the bottom of the page. Et voila, you have a shiny new post!

There are definitely times when that would be helpful, thank you teardrop!

I just used it to bump a thread where someone was looking for an orange blossom type fragrance, and it worked!

I had noticed this with my threads in the sale forum. I tried every which way I could think of, but I never could get the thread back to the pole position. Instead, I deleted the old thread after copying/pasting it into a new post. I'll give the suggested fix a try next time. Thanks!

The fix l found seems to have stopped working.

Please can we do away with this feature? lt is killing the Sample of the Day thread, as no-one can see when l've added a NEW post about a NEW fragrance l've tried. These are not "updates", they contain new information posted several days after my previous post.

Basenoters, if you agree, please post on this thread & get your voices heard!
