Mustang by Estee Lauder is worth a shot, but I'd have to really know what you mean by modern. For example, Michael for Men by Kors might be too non-modern for you. You can also try Vintage by Varvatos and Burberry's London for Men.

I first thought of SL Chergui, fruits and spices with tobacco.

Gucci Pour Homme II. It may start as violet leaf and black tea, but it evolves into tobacco. Violet leaf and tobacco, with cinnamon, myrrh and a bit of musk. Oh so highly recommended.

Strictly in the vein of Havana? Czech & Speake Cuba. Alternative options for something veering towards pipe tobacco = Tobacco Vanille, Odori Tabacco and Tabac by La Via Del Profumo.

Costume National Homme is a lovely, relatively recently-introduced tobacco/spice scent with great sillage and longevity.

Costume National Homme by Costume National initially offers a tasty, spicy citrus, with a fantastic wood and tobacco, which is overlaid throughout its full development, and is carried to its resplendent spices, with cloves, cinnamon and thyme sharing the stage in the heart, thence enveloped by its somewhat powdery and savory, incense base. This exceptional composition has good sillage and longevity.

Havana doesn't smell all that dated to me. It was realeased in 1994, so it really isn't that old. I love the stuff.
