Thumbs up Versace The Dreamer considered one of the best of all time?

What are your thoughts on this. I think it's an amazing well developed scent with a fantastic dry down.

Imo it's no where near the best of all time but more of a popular fringe fragrance that has it's fans.

Not a fan of this one at all, though it's supposed to be best Versace fragrance, that seems to be the popular belief

No. Personally I am not a fan but as far as popularity, sales, ground breaking, etc it is no where close to best of all time.

It's a great composition, but that doesn't necessarily make it very wearable. I like it, but I don't want to smell like it. Not one of the best of all time IMO.

I don't get what everyone complains about in the opening?! Its a great frag from top to bottom but definitely not considered the best of all time in my book.

I agree with most of the comments here. I think is very well made, I own a bottle and wear it often, but I really think is far from "the best of all time" if there's ever such a fragrance.

Seems like The Dreamer and A*men have a lot in common. Many people hate the openings, some die hard fans, some die hard haters, and both have excellent dry downs.

not one of the best of all time, but probably in the top 30 or 40 designer fragrances of all time.

I got a bottle a while ago and try it from time to time... but there is just something so 'off' from its start and that something lasts too long to tolerate. So, no it would not get my vote.

From the house, I hold green, blue, baby blue jeans higher and can get a much more enjoyable and economical tobacco ride out of Bogart pH.

For me not something I wear with any regularity. In fact, I think it has been years. Way too agressive for me in projection, longevity. Overpowering actually, and not in a nice way.

I have the older formulation and the new and have to say it is a good one if you can get passed the smoker in a wool coat opening.
Not the greatest of all time though.

Would you say that the two formula's are the same ( more or less) ? Or is there a noticible difference ?

I consider it to be one of the most unnatural smelling fragrances. It is not bad, it is just pure chemical smell that is hard to compare to any ingredient from nature.

Honestly not a huge difference but you can tell the original box formula has a less offensive opening and it smells "full" compared to the reformulation. If you didn't have both side by side you wouldn't be able to tell aside from the opening....the first lasts a tad longer as well.

    Thanks, I appreciate it sir

I love "...the smoker in a wool coat opening..." comment as well I can't say I have ever read that description before here ( I mean that in a good way). I actually love the opening and am still not sure with the dry down. As far as being the best all time, I don't know. There are so many great ones out there.

Not at all. Only thing that I always like about my Versace Dreamer is, sorry to say, the bottle (I have the initial release one). Only got it because of that and its similarity in some way to one of my faves, Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme (pre-reformulation, the one in the velvet box and sticker on the bottle). While it is pleasant (and the opening is while different, not at all off-putting to me) I don't consider it a must-have.

Though I must say, I like this comment too ""...the smoker in a wool coat opening..." (unfortunately to my nose I don't catch it much ... it's there, but rather faint)

Not even close, had a bottle but gave it away to a friend. It certainly deserves and warrants a place in the books, but as one of the best ever? Nope.

'One of the best of all time' is a tall order; I like it very much and won't join in the general panning. These things go in cycles...ask again in a year or two (especially if it is discontinued) and you may get a different response.

One of the best at its price point...YES IMO. But it is a sort of love it or hate it scent, and not one of the most accessible designer scents. And 2 or 3 sprays is ample.

  29. #29

Default Re: Versace The Dreamer considered one of the best of all time?

it can. just wear it in a place where no one is wearing it or even know about it , it is cheap but sparkling quality..exceptional longevity , sillage and projection , incredible scent. Trust me , dont spray too much ( 2 to 4 max ) , wear it when you go out for a class party or on a date..it is the best romantic scent IMO. so wear it in romantic conditions.
so that , it's the best of romantic scents of all time and learning where / how to wear it , will make it the best fragrance of all time for you and for people who smell it on you.

i have never come across a niche fragrance, that's why my opinion is restricted with designer scents. i think i've tried almost 60-70% of all designers and this is by far the best thing i've experienced. it's indispensible for me since i first smelled it in 1998. indeed it's not a mere scent, it's poetry...

Maybe my juice got stale, but I actually fell out of "love" for this one today. It was my SOTD and wasn't projecting like I remembered. Also, that unpleasant opening seemed to linger the whole time. I decided to spritz it in various rooms to use up the bottle. This one actually got me interested in fragrances over a decade ago and really impressed me at the time. I don't feel like I need to restock it now, but it was fun while it lasted. As for the answer to the question, years ago, I would have said yes, but in today's world and with my changing tastes, I'll have to say no.

^ that's too bad. It's likely your taste changed and with it your perception of the perfume itself. Almost 20 years later, I still love it!

I am a big fan of "The Dreamer," this scent got me into this addiction, i mean hobby. But the question is impossible to answer, when a person smells a scent, his/her reaction is all subjective. Meaning that each individual has different tastes, preferences, etc... One person may like the smell of incense fragrances, while another person likes oriental fragrances. You know what i mean? It is like saying the taste of an apple is better than the taste of an orange. Or purple is a better color than blue. No one color can be better than the other.
