I blind bought this used (very cheap, so not a big deal), and this might be may all time most hated fragrance. I have now given it three wears, and each time, it was just torture keeping it one an hour. Stale flowers and cheap cigarette smoke; it reminds me of what a flower show would smell like run by a bunch of chain smokers in a trailer park (ok, an elitist imagine, my appologies). Just horrible to me.

It is the best fragrance ever made, makes Lutens, Creed, Amouage, Guerlain, Montale, Chanel, Malle, etc... scents smell like absolute rubbish. I am ashamed to even own any other scents. For example, i wore Coromandel yesterday, i had to wash it off, throw the bottle in the trash and soothe my body with angelic sprays of ********. I will not even say the name of Versace's masterpiece because it is that holy.

No - not even the most average of all time - plenty of others there

In vintage - it might not be bad - but that's about the highest complement I can give it

And really - its almost like the trolls are out - prodding with this post.

Only own an aftershave splash from late 90's. I remember liking it. Am i right it was the last one mr Versace had his fingerprint on before his murder. Now curious to try the EDT after all these years.

It smells great (wait, at least, for 30 minutes and see), long lasting and really good silage. I like it so much. Not sure if it is the best of all time or not! But it is currently one of the best in my wardrobe.

Cant stand it. Its just meh..

Although I am certain that if it was to be discontinued tomorrow its value and "perceived quality" would skyrocket.

... hehe ... :-) ... just stumbled upon this vintage thread - and got myself a large bottle of "The Dreamer" today for a steal ...

I compare it with music on the radio:
There were times when Supertramp, The Bangles, OMD and Depeche Mode just sucked.
Now, that there`s so much horrific crap out there, I'm enjoying all of them. I'm dearly, deeply, whole-heartedly enjoying them. I really do.
The best? Not in my view. Good? Of course. Better than most out there recently? Sadly, yes - but who can say correctly? Who will notice and who can listen to all this stuff??!!!
    Same with "The Dreamer" :-)
    Nice one ...

I stumbled on to this as a complete blind buy, knowing nothing of it.
It was a nice surprise and agrees with me.
And that's all that counts. Right?

I can see why this fragrance was discontinued and placed into the Ross and TJ Max and things of the like, it's weak. This is a cologne I have to spray like 20ml's each time I apply it. I own a 50ml bottle, and I've only worn it for 2 days and I am at like 15ml left, pathetic projection, non existent Sillage. No compliments entry what so ever, I can't understand the hype of this Dreamer because for me it's just a dud. It like very watered down smelling. I don't even get any tobacco note from it, it is a cologne that I will not be buying g a 2nd bottle for a round two when my current bottle runs dry. And I look forward to it in fact, it takes up valuable real estate.

Well said. Also it may be a vintage vs reformulation issue. I have read here at BN that there is a big difference. I own the current version and I share your opinion.

Lol at this thread. I'm getting more convinced each time that I'm not a Basenoter. Love The Dreamer, love Platinum Egoiste, don't care about "vintage" scents and am not crazy about niches.

Anyways... I wouldn't say The Dreamer is the best ever, but it's a beautiful fragrance, lovely and romantic. If it is discontinued, then this is sad news to me. Maybe I can live with it if Bogart Pour Homme is a good replacement - Never tested it. If anyone cares to share a word on Bogar Pour Homme, much appreciated.

It blows my mind that The Dreamer is considered one of those "polarizing" fragrances - what struck me upon first wearing it was how safe and middle-of-the-road, how fresh and how 90s it smelled. Yes, there are a few interesting things going on - the "damp" texture, the (faint) tobacco note, the overall slightly effeminate feel... but it ultimately smells like a more complex Febreze, or any of the modern "clean linen" fragrance (some sites actually mention linen seed in The Dreamer's note pyramid). I suppose coming out in '96 that makes it ahead of its time, but I was led to expect something truly polarizing a la Joop, Fleur du Male, A Men etc...

It may not fall back on any aquatic cliches of its time period but it's still ultimately a completely inoffensive fresh fragrance. I don't doubt that reports of compliments from women are true, but I roll my eyes when people say that it'll make you smell "mysterious" or "not like every other guy out there".
