Default I'm scared to wear Oud 27!

Just got this today in a swap, there is something about it I like but also something about it I don't care for. I get a sour incense vibe from this. Don't like the sour but do like the incense. Anyway this one seems a little out there compared to what I have tried and am use to so I am kind of nervous to wear this one out because I have no idea what kind of reaction I will get. I did let a female relative smell it on my skin and she loved it.

If you don't care for it, don't wear it.

I will give it a few wears just to give it a fair shot. Like I said there is something about it I like. Just not sure how well it will be received by others.

The top is the most deliciously dirty frag I've smelled. Perfume critic Luca Turin correctly calls it pornographic. It will be received as deliciously pornographic by most. However, after an hour or so, the musk subsides and it becomes a very elegant woody frag, which will be perceived by most as very elegant. You can time yourself depending on circumstance. (to continue Luca turin's citation, he says it's like a woman who caught in mid-action, buttons up and pretends nothing happened).

I gave my sister the oud 27 lotion, and she loves it.

As a guy, I can understand why another guy wouldn't want to project the smell of a woman's Vajaja.

I am in no condition to assign a gender to this musk. I must say that I feel more comfortable wearing Muscs Koublai Khan than Oud 27.

For those who haven't read it, LT's characteristically imaginative review starts by talking about women selling dirty underwear on the internet.

For me its just a sour oud/musk/wood combo.
Nothing sexual, no used panties smell, no poop, no animals, nothing like that.

Just a pretty different oud musk wood cause its very, i mean, VERY sour.

Do not wear anything that you feel uncomfortable with as this hobby is one to be enjoyed and not feared.

I've owned my bottle of Oud 27 for over a year now and love wearing it and think it's an amazing creation and quite unlike anything else. But as d4n14L points out above, it is just a sour oud fragrance with incense.... that's all! I don't get all this 'pornographic/sexual/animal nonsense. Absolute rubbish! C'mon!

Reactions vary tremendously. I've had several people comment it smells like 'tangerines' and 'sour oranges'. Most people don't really know what oud smells like so they perceive this fragrance as 'fruity'. I've had someone say 'My God what an amazing smell - what is that?'. My son, however, hates it and says it smells of 'blood and oranges' - presumably the 'blood' refers to the metallic/sour effect of the incense. One of my drinking buddies is not fond of it but the other two like it.

I still think it's very unwise to swap or blind buy this kind of scent given it's reputation. As with all perfumes, if you don't like it don't wear it. There's no point. We all make purchasing mistakes from time to time.

    there's nothing sexual about O27.

Ohh and neither is it oud lol. It's what artists like to call 'an artist rendering' of oud.

    for swap/sale:

thanks to october Blind sniff and dear Cacio who sent me samples, i tried Oud 27 ,

the opening was medicinal-achoholic oud very simmilar to Midnight oud by Juliette has a gun, but less rose here and much more of some sour note, that was unpleasant, but it evaporated quite quickly!
it smells dirty and sour, and not very beautiful , so this would never be a scent i would wear, dont have this mazochistic approach to scents most i could do was Chanel Cuir de russia which smelled fecal to me at the beginning , then iris took over and won me....here nothing wins me over
i like oud as in Pure oud this one smells a bit cheapish to me

Secretions Manifique is absolutely unwearable !! the only scent i have tried so far that is causing me real physical pain! like i am at the dentist, or this metalic feel in mouth from fork that scrubbed on aluminium! untolerable!
next day only, i can smell my blotter and talk about marine flower, and saline feel to it, seecucumber secretions......but not before it looses strenght!

Rather than characterizing the top of Oud 27 by Le Labo as "the most deliciously dirty frag", I found it to be an animalic tango, namely, a foul and sour oud partnered with an earthy, floral saffron giving life to a miasmic melange of stale urine, foetid smoke, raw leather and slimy sweetness.

If you don't mind smelling like a worker in a Wastewater Treatment Plant, by all means, wear it to your heart's content.

My full impression of the scent, which warranted my Neutral Rating, follows:

Oud 27 by Le Labo - One is initially overwhelmed by a animalic tango. A foul and sour oud partnered with an earthy, floral saffron give life to a miasmic melange of stale urine, foetid smoke, raw leather and slimy sweetness. For a time, this vomitous blend rankles, and is spewn to the rehabilitating middle. Atlas cedar, with its balsamic and evergreen woodiness, coupled with a refreshing incense suffocate the putrid piss and stenchy fumes, as well as rehabilitate the saffron with creamy and honey aspects and the oud with a bright and fresh aura. The awaiting base with its complementary guaiacwood imparts its pleasing smokiness and candied smoothness, aided by a mildly peppery and herbaceous patchouli. A prosaic drydown ensues. This edgy composition lacks projection and longevity.

As expected, this is a very controversial frag. What surprised me though is not the personal preference for or against such musks, but the fact that actual perceptions seem to vary. During a recent blind sniff, some of the sniffers were apparently unable to detect the dirty aspect, and perceived the frag as a smooth powdery thing. Presumably, there are also some people who are instead hyper-sensitive to it. Definitely an interesting ride.

Does anybody here want to shower with Oud 27 shower oil? Which I do have, by the way. Glad to provide samples ...

I love Oud 27 but see how people would hate it. It's also definitely not a "beginner's scent" and is one to never blind-buy and make sure you have a sample to wear around before coming to a conclusion - and this last part is for those who like it right away!

yes i wrote my first impression above after having it on my arm for maybe no more then 20 mins am impatient hehe. but basicly i found it very wearable after those unpleasant top notes dissapear!!...the first 15 minutes are soar, but i constantly smell this medicinal oud, like Midnight oud from JHG,

i gave it neutral rating too, although i am not sure what to think of it yet, have to wear it few more times...just the initial blast....will probably keep me away from it! this is why i dont like synthetical frags...they all smell nice after 30 mins , but one has to go through that and ....its not what i want

I have to admit I was a little scared to try my sample of Oud 27 based on all the comments about it. I did try it tonight though for the first time, and I was quite impressed. It's not nearly as challenging to my nose as some people describe. I get a very nice rich wood with light incense and saffron. I believe someone likened it to tree sap in a review, and at the beginning I got that sort of impression as well (though more appealing than real tree sap). It does have a very slight sour edge but not what I was expecting. Just sour enough to give it some personality and prevent it from being boring like wonderwood or even dark oud. I let my wife smell it to get her impression, she said it smelled good and picked up the incense, saying it reminded her of being in a temple. I definitely will give this some more time and won't hesitate to wear it out and even to work.

To me, the top of this one smells like a combination of wet wool and a brewery.
