Thread: Next Lutens?

    Default Next Lutens?

Just bought Ambre Sultan and really like the construction. I'm thinking for autumn/winter I'd like something warm and spicy and incensey and I think Lutens must be a good way to go. What would you guys look to in the Lutens range for that spice and incense hit...

    Thanks

    L'Eau Froide

L'Eau Froide, as the name subtly suggests, is hardly a warm incense, it's chilly and decidedly un-Lutens if you take Ambre Sultan as a classic representative of the line. But then neither is the much older encense et Lavande, which also lacks that boatload of syrupy amber. Closer to what you're looking for, though. Perhaps you'd enjoy Fumerie Turque - it gave me a headache, but it's a hard-hitting combo of tobacco, spicey ,vanilla, amber, leather...no incense though, just some resins. Also try Serge Noir, which is deeply smoky.

+1 on Serge Noire which I personally dislike but could seriously fit your bill. Fille En Aiguilles is another one well worth checking out...

    Where to start..

    Arabie is spice laden.

    Chergui is warm too.

Chene if you can find it - woodsy and boozy.

I second Arabie's spices. And fille en aiguilles if you like some pine resins with your incense. Fumerie turque is warm tobacco, but I think it's only available in Paris.

I would nominate Fille En Aiguilles as my top recommendation. But really, over half the Lutens line is one big riff on "oriental", and the sea of choices is almost overwhelming in quality and number...

Serge Noire & Fille are the two.

By all means test L'Eau Froide but I don;t think it fits the bill for a warm winter scent. It's a cold summer/spring scent to my nose.

Thanks for all the replies - one quick question, how smokey is Fuerie Turque. I don't mind a sweet toboacco but too tobacco smokey and I'm not so keen...

Not particularly smokey, it's more tobacco than smoke. Still, there is some.

+1 Fumerie turque (it's not smokey as mentioned, but smells like Amsterdammer tobacco if you know)

Warm and spicy for winter :

    Cuir mauresque

    Santal de Mysore

Done a bit of digging around and I've requested some samples from SL - Fumerie Turque, Encens en Lavande, Fille En Aiguilles and a bit left field and not at all in keeping with my description of what I wanted, Rahat Loukoum...

I'll report back - be interested in the meantime if anyone has tried Encens or Rahat what they think!

Rahat has a glorious opening and heart of sweet cherries, almond, heliotrope, it smells cakey and dense but quickly becomes translucent and light. It is a mere skin scent after about an hour - very nice, but there are better gourmands out there. Still, I'd happily wear this

L'Eau Froide is the last fragrance I would have suggested from your answer. +1 on Fille en Aigulles even though I don't enjoy it. Fumerie Turque is better. But do feel free to break away from the Lutens line up for what you're after - the first thing that came to mind when I read your post was Wazamba by Parfum D'Empire - look into it!

Encens et lavande is a cool, ashy lavender.

I've never owned Gris Clair, but it (GC) seemed to me more medicinal in the opening.

Feminite du Bois. Fumerie Turque is nice too, but some people can't take the piss note in the drydown.

Well my 4 samples arrived, along with 28 others! got to hand it to Lutens, that's a bit good. Anyway, done my first sniffs and...

    Tubereuse criminelle
    Douce amere
    La myrrhe
    Rahat Loukoum

Are all introducing more questions in my 'next Lutens' quest. I have to say from the sample Douce Amere is a bit special!
