I'd rather say the one I love much stronger than (seemingly) others is Aigner Black. A terrific scent.
I think Bvlgari Man is quite nice, and don't get the bad reviews and lack of respect it seems to have.
Wife likes that one alot too. She chose it as best out of several men's colognes I asked her opinion on.
So many. I'll go with Le Male.

Jil Sander Absolute
Halston Man Amber
Someone already posted Balmain Carbone and I couldn't agree more
Davidoff Adventure. Generic it may be, but it just makes my nose happy!
Deauville Pour Homme by Michel Germain.
A great fragrance that often can be found cheap, yet it gets almost no love on Basenotes.

Long time lurker, first time poster:
I think it is a great reflection of these forums that a discussion like this can be had (ON THE INTERNETZ!!!) without a massive flame-war errupting! Bravo!
That said, I think a lot of "over-rated" scents are actually just popular scents that become too familiar to the nose. Such as pleasant company that has stayed beyond their welcome.
Terre d'Hermès...or really any Jean-Claude Ellena frag.
Here, probably Pure Malt? Didn't it have its own extra section even, just for Pure Malt discussion, or was that something else? It's not a bad scent though but I'd consider it massively overrated. Perhaps Aventus too, but I have not tried it yet, it could be amazing.
Pointless is as pointless does...
For Sale: VINTAGE Montales
I can see that to a brand new member it might be a little confusing to see overrated and underrated conversations in the same thread. Maybe the word "pointless" didn't convey what was meant?
It isn't always easy to strike a balance between not bumping an old thread and starting new threads when the subject has been recently discussed. Since there had been no activity to the thread in more than six months, another way to approach it might be to start a new thread in the Just Starting Out area, asking either what scents are over-rated or what scent are under-rated and linking to this older thread for reference, assuming your intent is to get that kind of information, and not to stir the pot.
It was pointless in the first place as the answer to anyone who isn't completely blinkered is Aventus.
Time to lock the thread ?
I don't think it's pointless. It's interesting. Helpful? Maybe not that much.
I do find some worthwhile insight here. Creed makes wonderful fragrances, but for me they do not last very long. I can't see spending so much on vaporware, especially Aventus. That's what I also found with Guerlain Corolian. Beautiful bottle and appealing combination of notes, but... after an hour it was gone.
Montale Black Aoud. Hate it.
Interlude Man by Amouage- highly unliked by me
wow i always heard that basenotes full of Creed fan crowd....guess not true
my vote GIT and Aventus
def Le Male
It must be posted already but I'll jump in...
The whole oud-line from By Kilian is really, really, really overrated and overpriced.
Bond No 9 New Haarlem
TF Tobacco Vanille
An investment in knowledge pays the best interest
- Benjamin Franklin
Issey Miyake - L'eau D'Issey
My worst blind buy for sure a few years back.
Chanel - Platinum Egoiste and PR 1 Million are runner ups for me. PR 1 Million smells IDENTICAL to one of those black scented markers from when I was in elementary school 20-25 years ago.
1. Creed - Spice & Wood
2. Creed - Aventus
3. Tom Ford - Grey Vetiver
4. Xerjoff - Fars
5. Dior - Vetiver
6. Creed - Green Valley
7. Clive Christian - 1872 for Men
8. by Kilian - Straight to Heaven
9. The Different Company - De Bachmakov
10. Creed - Royal Scottish Lavender
Knize 10. Cough.
He boiled for our sins.
About a year ago I said Green Irish Tweed was the most overrated fragrance ever, but I retract that statement.
I bought a fresh bottle of it and it's completely different than what I had previously experienced. It's become one of my favorites.
However, I still hold firm to my claim that La Nuit de L'Homme is extremely overrated. For whatever reason, I can't come around on it despite trying several times.
Reigning supreme king of the overrated, that title is reserved for the emperors new scent Aventus.
Others which I find overrated (although some I still own and enjoy):
Green Irish Tweed
Dior Homme Intense
