Default Thoughts on L'instan de Guerlain

I'm thinking about picking up a bottle of this today. Not the extreme version, the normal edt version. Any thoughts on this fragrance?

Why don't you search for threads on this first as there is already (if not all) so much written on Guerlain L'Instant edt and edp, seperately and comparison threads?!

My advise: Read those threads and then buy the edp as it's way way better on many specifics! (eg longevity)
My Top '10' : (In no particular order)

    - Dolce & Gabbana: Pour Homme (vintage)
    - Paco Rabanne: Pour Homme (vintage)
    - Loewe: Esencia/Pour Homme/Solo/7
    - Guerlain: Homme L'Eau Boisee
    - Pal Zileri: Cuoio
    - MPG: Santal Noble
    - Guerlain: Vetiver
    - Amouage: Jubilation XXV
    - Dior: Homme Intense
    - YSL: Kouros (Fraicheur)

The standard pour homme is good with the citrus elements being stronger while the cocoa is weaker. It's more versatile but suffers in the longevity department. This one will always be overshadowed by the Extreme version which so much better, the thing you need to ask yourself is "why buy a lesser version of something great" which the Extreme version ultimately is.

From what I have seen the EDT is a lot cheaper. I have both, wore LIDGE yesterday, and while it was very good, I did not find it worth the premium price. EDT may be a lesser version, but not by much IMHO.

I guess, one of my concerns with the EDP is that, from what I have read it is more powerful and more gourmandish/sweet scent than the edt. I do not want that. I want something subtle.

This is true. I tested the EDP and thought it was excellent, but after a second wearing a few months later I came down on the side of the EDT, realising I would soon get sick of the heavier version.

Good lasting power, almost fudge-like, slightly caramelized sweet gourmand notes.

I think the EDT has a bit much of a classic old man smell that I don't think would work well for someone under 35. But if you are an older gentleman, by all means go for it. It's a nice smell, just very mature to my nose.

I own the EDT and love it. The scent is unique and masculine, IMO. It lasts all day on me, with very good projection for the first couple of hours, but still very detectible three hours onwards. People around me seem to enjoy it as well, as I received compliments while wearing it. For the price, you can't go wrong with the EDT.

I have a sample of the EDP, and it is very strong, especially in the opening. Personally, I think it is an acquired taste as I need more time to wear it to fully appreciate it.

Both are great fragrances, but I find the EDT to be more versatile compared to the EDP.

That just about sums up my feelings on it, though I would give it slightly below a "good" rating. I blind bought it "on the cheap," but would not have done so again as its large use of anise combined with its highly powdery nature are not to my tastes at all despite the obvious quality. Above average, not great...

I don't like it at all, it doesn't have that thing that makes it stand out. To me there's a weird clash going on with the citrus, it feels tacked on, almost like there were 2 ideas going on. It was a quick and easy pass for me.

It's easily a classic, one of the best aquatics along with A*Men Pure Malt.

I think its a good gourmand. Chocolate gourmand to be more specific so if you like those type give it a shot.

When L'instant had been launched it was a good gourmand scent.
Nowadays new launches are catastrophic and L'instant becomes a very good scent.

I prefer Edt. Subtle and balanced. I like it.

Its good, loved the patchouli in it, but found it a bit too spicy for me at the moment.
Is the juice worth the squeeze?

I think it's wonderful and prefer it to the Extreme version by some distance. Not overbearing, initially cool citrus anise that warms up with chocolate and patchouli. Very tasteful and has gotten me several compliments.

I think it's better than then extreme version but still it's to me a sweet bland fragrance that has no edge or balls at all. Very natural smelling, though. Suitable for a nice, bland, gentle, non-surprising person.

Strangely enough the compliments I received have all tended to go along the lines of..."mmm...you smell bland, gentle and non-surprising today...what you wearing?"

I'm sure it will draw compliments, it is a highly respected fragrance and house. The "fault" is not in the fragrance but me; it's one of the many fragrances which simply are too plain and smooth to my tastes.

I know what you mean. I would prefer to wear something edgier like CdG2 Man for a winter's day but I end up wearing LIDG more often, or DHI because they're "safer". As much as I love CdG2 Man, it's pretty austere and I work with people all day so I guess I try to be considerate of others. Or maybe I should just wear what I want and damn the philistines!

Sure, the extreme lasts longer but there is a refreshing citrus tanginess and lightness which the EDT has that's really enjoyable. It makes it very classy.
