Default Does anyone else strongly dislike Terre D'Hermes?

It's one of the very few scents that I've smelled and found nothing enjoyable about.

I keep revisiting and revisiting, but I come away thinking it's awful every time.

I am pretty much neutral and I don't think many will say much more against it than that. It's just not the kind of scent to really polarize views.

Plenty of BNers hate it, including myself. Keep in mind that while it is clearly a "statement making" frag, many claim that they actually enjoy it. The synthetic musks and iso e super overload are way too much for me, and I don't like the note combination either.

On my skin the edt version just doesn't work as I am smelling like an orange-peel for hours! Hardly any development!
I went for Cartier Declaration instead, which does work for me and is to be considered 'The Father' of Terre d'Hermes.
My Top 10 : (In no particular order)

    - Dolce & Gabbana: Pour Homme (vintage)
    - Paco Rabanne: Pour Homme (vintage)
    - Loewe: Solo (Absoluto)
    - Chanel: Antaeus
    - Chanel: Egoïste
    - MPG: Santal Noble
    - Guerlain: Vetiver
    - Amouage: Jubilation XXV
    - Dior: Homme Intense
    - YSL: Kouros (Fraicheur)

I quite enjoy it. I liked it enough to buy it. On my skin it is the dry down that I really like. Is it my favorite...no. Do I wear it quite often..yes. Will I replace it when the bottle is finished..if there were not so many others I want to try...probably.

I wouldn't say I strongly dislike it, but I just swapped away my bottle. I just wasn't reaching for it very often.

I've got it. Sometimes it's just right; vibrant and enjoyable - but on other days it's sickly, weirdly nauseating and powerful (ISO E Soup). It's impressive but I'm not sure I'll be buying it again.

I'm still testing it out, so really haven't formed a strong opinion yet. Right now, I neither like it nor dislike it. It's pleasant enough, but not notable to my nose, a little boring, yet with moments of interest. I doubt I'll buy it, but wouldn't be repulsed if it were given to me as a gift.

Meh. I've just realized I haven't the slightest thing to say about it. Not my cup of tea, but might wear it just for a change.

I like Declaration but I think it's silky smooth and more 'melodic' in comparison. Terre de Hermes can be rougher than hell and mega powerful.

I really liked it the first few times I smelled it, but recently I'm finding the smell of it repulsive. I'm not sure why that is, but it's a bit disturbing and I hope it doesn't happen with too many other fragrances.

Nothing but love for Terre d' Hermes.

Yes, you can get bored of it as with any scent, but I've always returned to it.

Bought a bottle in July 2006 and have had a bottle in my collection ever since. The parfum just adds to the overall TdH experience. I like and love both. My signature scent no questions asked.

+1 Although, I actually didn't really like it or appreciate the first couple of times I wore it. Now I do, though, and it only helps that it just seems to develop well on my skin. Nothing wrong with disliking it, though...it's definitely one of those types of scents, where it pull people more often in one direction or the other.

Just because it has a lot of positive reviews on Basenotes and it is very popular throughout the community, doesn't mean you are obligated to like it or buy a bottle. If you don't like it (or you like it, but not enough to want a full bottle), that is a perfectly valid view point, and you shouldn't buy something simply because you think you are obligated to. In the end, it's your nose that makes the call.

Me? I don't strongly dislike Terre D'Hermes. I like it. But I just wouldn't wear it. I like the sparkling citrus peppey earthy opening, but it dries down into a sawmill sawdust accord which I'm nuetral on. I'd rather wear Terre d'Hermes than absolutely nothing though. But with so many fragrances I like better, TDH just doesn't make the cut.

So did I - hated it. Until I smelled the perfume version, which is less sweet, deeper, elegant and just classy.

I still don't like the EdC version.

I found the EDP to be really gross and way too dense. The EDT is nice and more interesting than most current designer offerings but not amazing at all.

It stands out because it's different.

I traded a bottle of Grey Vetiver for the TDH Pure Parfum and I think it was a good swap as I've worn TDH more times than I wore GV. It's not even close to being a favorite of mine, but it's ok. I think it's kinda meh considering all the praise it gets.

Its my #1 scent and as close to a "signature" as I have gotten in years. I also, like the OP, couldn't stand it at first. Something was off-putting to me. But later that Fall I started cravingthe woods in it when the weather got colder. Since then its been love. I wear it to work almost daily and it is a professional, classy and sexy scent. I prefer to EDT. The Parfum was almost too smooth if that makes sense. I liked the kick I got out of the EDT and the drydown on my clothes is one of the best out there.

So like me, maybe it will change over time but no big deal of it doesn't. I hate many that are classic on here and have tried to like them or have worn them multiple times to no avail...Guerlain Vetiver among hem.

TdH doesn't stink, it could even be regarded as interesting but no more than 30 seconds: it is soooooooooooooooooooooooo boring ! no evolution, in the purest Elena's style
and the iso E is really headache inducer
maybe the recent reformulation (due to IFRA regulations) will leave something more wearable

The EdT is great scent - but the Pure Parfum is what I prefer...

Iso E Super can be too much for some people - but not for me.

Regardless, I highly respect both for what they are and even a layered wearing of the two is not inappropriate.

    Cheers.

Buy a bottle of Yardley's Citrus and Woods. It's a great alternative to TdH and for those that can't handle or smell the ISO E Super.
    My current favorites:

Bleu De Chanel, Creed Green Irish Tweed, Zino Davidoff, Dior Homme Intense, Creed Royal Oud, M7 (all versions), Chanel Egoiste, Dior Homme Sport, and Thierry Mugler Pure Malt.

I just put a tiny amount on my ankle. I can see the appeal of this fragrance, though it's far from my preference zone. There is some aspect to it that does seem to be giving me a headache, and I'm not smelling it close up either. If there was more complexity and it didn't give me a headache I'd give it another chance, but of course then it would be an entirely different frag! LOL.

It's one of my favorite JCE creations. Top notch materials and very elegant, masculine sillage. I wear two sprays of it and the sillage is just right. Incidentally, according to JCE himself, there are no musks of any kind in this fragrance.

No, there is musk. JCE confirmed this at a meeting last night.

I dislike it. It is odd on me, I smell it in 2 different possible ways, either a slightly dirty Orange smell, or a dissonant brew of chemicals and used matches. And I never have any idea which I'm going to get until its too late and it's on my skin.

So it's either just OK, or a total scrubber. Hence dislike.

I disliked it when I first tried it, sampled it again and warmed up to it, 3rd time I sampled it I had to have it. Bought it, seldom wore it and then finally traded it.

In my opinionits a straight forward orange frag with a twist of bengay. Very manly but not for me.
