Personally I think each if the ones you listed suck and are far outdated

Well, looking at some of the above posts fragrance snobs have struck yet again (rolls eyes). Dude says he's an average person with a tight budget looking to get something nice from Chanel and has narrowed it to 4 choices, and you get people talking bout trying vintage versions of outdated, borderline niche fragrances from Chanel. Only on fucking basenotes

OP, Bleu De Chanel is my pick for the compliments, the other criteria are a tie between all of your choices except Blanche. Overall, I would choose Bleu de Chanel.

To each his own taste - I'm not telling the OP not to like these fragrances. I'm just saying that if this is the style he likes, he can get just as good or better without paying a big premium for the Chanel name.

If I'm getting a Chanel, I want something unique and innovative that's not like anything else on the market - not some derivative stuff that they've cynically cranked out to cash in on the big market for generic synthetic fresh woody aquatics.
Understood, and agreed (partially). The one's the OP posted are HIS favorite scents from the Chanel line. There's a good chance he has tried many of the one's the rest of us have posted here, he simply did not like them/could not afford them. I do agree, if you can avoid paying the Chanel price tag, do it. I personally do not own ANY of their fragrances, the only one I have come close to purchasing is Bleu, simply because I can not find a substitute for it.
Ex: I purchased Fierce instead of PE, Perry Ellis M instead of Allure Homme, and I am currently looking for a similar fragrance to both Bleu and EB.

When the title of the thread refers to "Chanel's top 4 heavy hitters," IMO it's fair to express disagreement with that characterization.

If the OP had just asked advice about the fragrances in question, especially qualifying it by saying, "I know the general consensus is that these aren't the top Chanels, but they're the ones I personally like the best," I think the negative comments would be significantly more muted.
Just because it happened to you doesn't make it interesting.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

If I had to choose from the four in your list, though, I'd choose Platinum Egoiste, as it smells the least synthetic.

No offence taken guys, many have suggested Sycamore out of the Chanel line which I already have a few 10ml decants of. I was looking for something that was safe and pleasant, and just something that is very reliable casually.
As bad as this may sound, I'm after a people pleaser a little more than something that would please my nose.

It's fair to say everyone needs at least a few of those fragrances which aren't very risky.

You're a good sport - I happy to see you didn't take offense. Although I was pretty blunt about the fragrances, I don't form poor opinions of people just because they have different tastes than I do.

Whatever you go with, enjoy it in good health.

The Karmic balance will be restored! Only maybe consider a Guerlain released before 1995?

Obviously he likes these 4 frags, so why knock them like that in his own thread? I just don't get it. Anyway....
^Agreed. The herd mentality is pretty lame here. If a fragrance is too popular in real life then it's considered too generic or just a shitty fragrance on Basenotes. The OP asked for opinions from his 4 choices, not what the most beloved men's Chanel frags are on this forum. I personally prefer Egoiste and some of the Le Exclusifs to his choices, but that's not what this thread is about. So to answer his question:

I personally like Bleu de Chanel and Edition Blanche the most out of your four choices. I haven't worn AHS and I traded Platinum Egoiste for the original Egoiste b/c PE smells like A&F Fierce and I already own Fierce. Plus PE makes me sneeze a lot and had crap longevity. I think that Bleu is more likely to give you compliments and is more versatile and longer lasting/stronger projecting than EDB so I'll go with Bleu. EDB is a close 2nd amongst your choices and one I'd recommend to pick up later on down the road if the funds allow.

Bleu would be my choice, it outperforms all the other three in all categories on my skin.

After testing a number of Chanel fragrances I have narrowed down the 4 that I enjoy the most, but unfortunately can only pick one to purchase.

    -Allure Homme Sport,
    -Bleu De Chanel,
    -Platinum Egoiste
    -Edition Blanche.

If you guys had to choose only one of the above fragrances which one would it be ? and how do they compare in the follow categories:

    -Longevity
    -Projection
    -Sillage
    -Compliments
I own Bleu De Chanel and Platinum Egoiste and tried Allure Homme Sport and Edition Blanche once (I wont rate this 2 but they didnt have great longevity or projection on my skin (longevity like 6-8 hours top, projection average). None of them belong to my total favourites but I will try to compare just BDC and PE.

Longevity: Bleu De Chanel > Platinum Egoiste
Projection/Sillage: Bleu De Chanel > Platinum Egoiste
Compliments: Platinum Egoiste > Bleu De Chanel

BDC projects lot and makes me sneeze so I started to use it just on back of my neck.
    TOP 3 hot weather:

    1. Gucci Pour Homme II
    2. Creed Millesime Imperial
    3. Lalique Encre Noire

    TOP 3 cold weather:

    1. Dior Homme
    2. Eau Des Baux
    3. L'Instant de Guerlain Pour Homme Extreme

I go for Chanel No. 19. A green leather scent and wonderful in the EDP. The EDT is also great for warm days.

THIS. Chanel is advertising this one heavily on TV right now. I'm pretty sure I saw ads for Bleu during SNL and Sunday Night Football. For me, that's a reason NOT to buy it. If you're single and dating, the worst thing you can choose is a scent her brother wears... or her dad, or cousin... or, worse... her ex boyfriend. There's no way to prevent that sort of thing entirely, but you lower your odds substantially by avoiding the biggest of the top sellers.

I agree, that does happen. I view fragrance popularity differently though. For me, it's about avoiding scents that may make me smell like someone else, especially when it comes to dating. Years ago, I set up a female coworker with a friend of mine. The three of us met for drinks and had a great time, then I made up an excuse to leave so they'd end up hanging out. They were such a perfect match. The next day, I asked her how it went and she said something like "Oh, he's a nice guy but he reminded me of my brother. I just couldn't get past it." I was baffled. My friend and her brother had absolutely nothing in common. It kind of blew my mind. Anyway... a few weeks later, her brother dropped by work to meet her for lunch and she introduced me. And BOOM! It hit me: THIS GUY SMELLS LIKE (my friend) MIKE!

    Friggin' AdG.

I know people on BN like to bash popular scents, but not me. AdG is excellent. But I won't buy it because the risk of having that exact same thing happen to me is too high. Granted, I'm sure there are guys who wear my favorite Gucci Pour Homme II, and maybe someday I'll end up on a date with a woman who dated one of those guys... but the odds are so much lower than the odds of being on a date with a woman whose ex wore AdG.

If Chanel keeps running those ads, Bleu is going to be everywhere this fall. Any uniqueness associated with the scent will be gone.
