    Thumbs Up!

There are hundreds of more boring scents around and they don't take so much beating here as Bleu. Its magic works, look at the sales!

Well, first time I've tried it I was pretty much unimpressed. Later on I changed my opinion and is on my wish list

Thumbs down from me. I bought it because its basenotes smelled good on my clothes. Unfortunately it is so synthetic and screechy on my skin that it makes me sneeze a lot. For a fresh safe scent I strongly prefer Acqua Di Gio.

I tried it at Nordstrom's. It smelled awful on me. Couldn't wait to scrub it off, frankly. Thumbs down.

I'd recommend it to a person who wants a high quality, versatile fragrance. However, with a wardrobe like mine, I don't want an every day fragrance, so it's nay for me.

It took me some time 'to get' Bleu, but, now that I do; I dig it.
It's not at all as boring as it first seems like. Give it a fair chance.
It's like Secretions Magnifique, people know it's disgusting, because of
its rep, so that's what they smell. I had a sample once, the people who
didn't know its rep, didn't think it was bad at all.
Same with Bleu; people expect something boring, so, they smell it as
    boring!

Bleu is nothing mind-blowing or that spectacular but hey, it smells very pleasant to every one's nose and has a good longevity and projection so I personally can't complain. There are better scents out there but there are also quite a bit of those scents that are worse than bleu so imo bleu is way better than average. And yes, I own a bottle of BdC so thumbs up!

    Come on, that's unnecessary.

You should host a Bleu split. You'd probably do very well.

    - - - Updated - - -

Personally, I love the stuff. Hated it when I smelled it in the department store but ended up with a bottle somehow and now I'm onto my second. It's the only bottle I've finished and one of a few fragrances that really works for me anytime anywhere (TdH, Invasion Barbare, and Guerlain Homme L'Eau being the others). My girlfriend despises its trail when I spray it in the morning, and I've been relegated to putting it on in the basement or outside. I find it much deeper and more interesting than its commonly perceived and actually a fragrance that changes character depending on the day and develops dynamically throughout its life. I also prefer it to the Allure line, the Egoiste line, and both Pour Monsieurs (though I miss Concentree). I hold it in equal esteem to Sycomore. Long live Bleu.

On a sort of related note....I've been interested in frags for about 2 or 3 years now. You guys who have been around for a long time, let me ask you a question:

Have there been any male designer fragrances that have been released in the past, generally panned by basenotes and other 'aficionado' communities, only to be celebrated years later? I'm just wondering ,and not implying that this will happen with Bleu (though it may, who knows?)

Occasionally this happens in music and often with art, I imagine it must happen with cologne as well.

    Great question. I'm thinking....

Aventus was getting pretty mixed reviews here at first, but when people started reporting lots of compliments, and everybody recognized the somewhat greater-than-average olfactory fatigue, opinions seemed to shift toward the positive.

I think Quiksilver was somewhat ignored at first, but there were a few good reports later on, and people started noticing.

Le Feu d'Issey is definitely one that flopped with the public, only to be recognized later as being remarkable, around the time it was discontinued. Not sure what the early opinions were here.

+1. I wonder if Bleu is Chanel's take on Terre d'Hermes? Both have a big grapefruit opening and plenty of pepper. Unfortunately for me they are both iso e super flame throwers (i.e. headaches in a bottle).

The number one proof/rule for me that a scent is good : when you sample it , buy it , finish the bottle , then after one week, your nose asks for it because it misses it = buy it again .

I'm not saying this stuff is a masterpiece , but it does not smell like anything else on the market .

    Thumbs up

What is being put to rest? It's not horrible smelling, especially to the "average" person, who most likely thinks it smells "nice." I think you need to be more specific. Is it uninspiring in light of it being marketed by Chanel? I wonder what the results of that poll would be! LOL.

In my experience it's universally loved among women. Personally I remember being impressed but not over the moon with it upon trying it for the first time. I think it would be an ideal choice for the average joe who just want's one good fragrance due to it's versatility.

Right, and also remember that some frags are being pushed heavily at the major dept. stores, whereas "under the radar frags" that might be similar but better collect dust in discounter warehouses and bargain bins.

I think that's pretty much how I feel about it. My wife loves it...I like it a lot, but don't love it. I like it because it can pretty much be whatever I need it to be. It's on my Buy list, but only in the middle of the list.

It's interesting that you mention this. I was at Macy's a long time ago and was actually specifically looking for this scent, hoping I would love it, buy it, and live in bliss forever with puppy dogs and bacon everywhere.

Unfortunately for me, when the sales associate sprayed it on the card, I didn't find anything special about it. I said so, and she offered me a bunch of other scents. I ended up getting 1 million.

I guess it's a thumbs down for me. I have nothing against the scent or anyone that wears it...I just wasn't drawn to it.
